Introduction to Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine

Founded in 1956, Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine (website) has become a higher school with distinctive ethnic features for undergraduates, in which it develops mainly in field of traditional medicine, secondly in medical science, pharmaceutical science, engineering and business management by integrating education, science, culture, medical service, health preservation, enterprise development as well as international education and cooperation.

Our university started to enrolled undergraduates since 1964, and the overseas students since 1976, joint educated doctors and post doctors as well. It is one of the first universities which authorized by Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China to set up programs for postgraduates after the China reform and opening up to the world.

From our teachers and clinical practitioners there are 286 persons are with senior professional title. We have 1 National Reputed TCM Master, 33 National Reputed and Aged TCM Doctors, 19 specialists who obtain special government allowance from State Council of the People’s Republic of China, 20 Reputed and Aged TCM Doctors in Guangxi as well as 64 Reputed TCM Doctors in Guangxi.

Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine has 5 disciplines from first class which are authorized to deliver master title, and 44 second disciplines, 25 majors for undergraduates. Right now we have 18000 enrolled full-time students. The overseas students including Hongkong, Macau and Taiwan are more than 200.

In 2003, Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine became the first one in Guangxi which was ranked A class by Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China in the evaluation of education level for undergraduates.

Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine has 2 campuses as Mingxiu adn Xianhu,which are totally 1110.93mu (740, 361m2). The first phase of our new campus is finished and ready to be used. Our university has 8 affiliated hospitals, in which there are two AAA ranked hospitals offering 1200 Beds for patients. It has a serious of national reputed bases for production, study and scientific research, such as an affiliated medical school, an affiliated pharmaceutical factory, Chongyang Aged Flat, Yuan Zhi Yuan Massage Salon, Hong Zhong Health Club as well as Kang Ti Health Preservation Center.

GXUCM started to enroll foreign students and students from Hongkong, Macau and Taiwan since 1976, and our international students come mostly from ASEAN countries, Hongkong, Macau as well as Taiwan, which include more than 40 countries and regions. So far, we have educated more than 1600 overseas students from foreign countries and Hongkong, Macau and Taiwan. In the recent years Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine used to be ranked the 9th place in scale of International Students comparing to the other TCM colleges and universities, and the 5th place with the universities in Guangxi. About 80 percent of our international students are from ASEAN countries, for example, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore etc., they study in varies majors including Traditional Chinese Medicine, Integrated of Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine, Acupuncture and Tui-Na, Chinese Herbal Medicine and many programs at different academic levels, such as undergraduates and postgraduates programs.

Besides the scholarship offered by university, the People’s government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has established a full scholarship for ASEAN students and a scholarship for outstanding overseas students, in this few years we have more than 10 places for the scholarships each year.

Our graduates are all round the world. Prof. Kummer, the president of Chinese Natural Academy in Germany, Mr. Ng Po Kok, the president of Federation of Chinese Physicians and Acupuncturist Association of Malaysia, Mr. Su Chengji, vice chairman of World Federation of Manipulation, they used to be our students.

Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine has established cooperative relationships with 53 colleges and universities as well as medical institutes from 17 countries and regions, among them there are over 70 agreements were signed, and hundreds students have been send abroad in the exchange programs with Asian colleges and universities.

Since 2006, 8 cooperative projects with foreign partners were executed by Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine, 6 projects guided by governments were confirmed by Sino-Thai Joint Committee, and 2 projects by Sino-Vietnam Joint Committee. Those 2 projects were executed by our school and Hue College of Medicine, the first exchange of personnel was done. In 2008, Ruikang Affiliated Hospital established an International Cooperative Base for Chinese Medicine of State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the People’s Republic of China, by which we offer high quality Chinese medical service and undertake international assignments among governments.

Since 1993, about 30 international professional conferences were held by Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine , for example, International Manipulation Medicine and Traditional Therapy Conference for 14 times , Sino-Thai Conference on Traditional Medicine and Natural Health Products for 5 times as well as International Forum on Screening Functional Components of Agricultural Residues and Mangiferin Research for 2 times. All of those conferences have exerted a significant influence in the filed of international medicine and Asian countries. Our university is also the co-organizer 2009， 2011 and 2013 China-ASEAN Summit Forum of Traditional Medicine.

Feature

As the linking point of the tour route from Guilin to Beihai, Nanning has a lot of attractions to offer: grand Detian Waterfall, beautiful Mt. Qingxiu and Mt. Daming, quiet Yangmei Ancient Town, mysterious Huashan Mural as well as scattered parks and gardens. Visitors will be enchanted and may want to spend more time in the city. Delicious local foods such as various porridges and rice noodles as well as Suanye (fermented fruits and vegetables) cannot be enjoyed anywhere else in China.

Weather

Pleasant climate endows Nanning with evergreen trees and fragrant flowers all year round, hence the name ‘Green City.’ In such a beautiful land, more than 30 ethnic minority groups have been living harmoniously for 1,680 years. Zhuang is the largest minority group of China. Over 90% of them live in Guangxi. Their history and ethnic culture add charm to the city.

Winters are cool and the average temperature in January being 12.9°C (55.2°F). Cold weather rarely occurs in Nanning, but sometimes temperatures can fall to 5°C (41°F) during nighttime.
