Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was founded in 1958 and was formerly known as Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 2005 it was renamed Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 2017, the school was included in the list of national “double first-class” construction universities, and the subject of traditional Chinese medicine was selected as the national “double first-class” construction discipline. In 2018, the school as a whole relocated to the new campus near Jinghu Tuanbo Lake. The school has been shortlisted by the Ministry of Education, the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the Tianjin Municipal Government to build a university. The school is the only international college of traditional Chinese medicine approved by the former State Education Commission, and a member of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Society.
The university’s new campus is located on the bank of Tuanbo Lake in Jinghai District, Tianjin. It covers an area of over 2,600 acres and a building area of over 600,000 square meters. The campus is characterized by a lake landscape, Chinese medicine vegetation, and traditional Chinese medicine culture. It is the largest Chinese medicine botanical garden in the country, the most advanced Chinese medicine science and technology park in the country, and an international education center for traditional Chinese medicine.
The university currently has nearly 9,000 undergraduates, nearly 4,000 graduate students, and more than 2,000 foreign students and students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
