Introduction to Wuyi University
Wuyi University (武夷学院, website) is a public full-time undergraduate college approved by the Ministry of Education on March 19, 2007. Its predecessor was Nanping Teachers College, which was founded on August 12, 1958.
Wuyi University is located in the green hinterland of the economic zone on the west side of the Taiwan Strait. It is located in Wuyi Mountain, a “world cultural and natural heritage site”. High-speed railways, expressways, aviation and other transportation are in all directions, especially with the opening of the Hefu High Speed Rail, which only takes 1 hour. It can reach Fuzhou, 3 hours to Xiamen, Shanghai, Nanjing, Hefei, Changsha and other coastal central cities and inland cities, 6 hours to the capital Beijing, the school’s external development radius has been effectively reduced, and the advantages of the school’s location have been continuously highlighted. The campus covers an area of 3,000 acres, with mountains and rivers, lakes and mountains, birds and flowers, and picturesque four seasons. The university is an ecological civilization education base in Fujian Province.
Wuyi University has a building area of 458,000 square meters, a total equipment value of 170 million yuan, and a library collection of 2.38 million volumes (including 1.03 million electronic books). It has established periodicals, newspaper full-text databases, master’s thesis databases, and knowledge videos. Databases, e-books, and other Chinese and foreign text mirror sites, effectively improving the level of service teaching and scientific research. Various teaching, living, sports and other facilities are complete, and the modern campus of human culture, ecology, gardening, and digitalization has begun to take shape.
The university currently has about 15,000 full-time students. Wuyi University has 1 national speciality specialty, 8 provincial key disciplines (including application type), 10 provincial speciality; Songming Physics Research Center of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Fujian Key Laboratory of Eco-industry Green Technology, Fujian Wuyi Tea Resource Innovation and Utilization Key Laboratory of Fujian Province, Fujian Provincial Bamboo Engineering Technology Research Center and 25 provincial-level characteristic innovation platforms; more than 500 national and provincial scientific research projects; approved by Fujian Province 2011 China Oolong Tea Industry Collaborative Innovation Center ; Zhu Zixue Research Center was selected as the Fujian Province Social Science Research Base and the University’s New Type Think Tank; Wuyishan World Cultural Heritage Research Center was awarded the Fujian University Excellent Social Science Research Base; Zhu Zi Culture Education Demonstration Base was selected as the first batch of outstanding Chinese traditional culture in Fujian universities Demonstration base for education; North Fujian Red Culture Research Center settled in the school and was selected into the Fujian Humanities and Social Sciences Research Base. The CPC History Reading Club and Xi Jinping’s New Age Socialist Thought Reading Club with Chinese characteristics were selected as key Marxist theory reading clubs in Fujian universities.
The university has more than 1,000 faculty and staff, more than 780 full-time teachers, and more than 200 external teachers. Among full-time teachers, 41% are teachers with senior titles, 85% are teachers with master’s and doctoral degrees; 8 national high-level talents, including experts who enjoy special allowances from the State Council, and 34 provincial high-level talents. In addition, more than 130 academicians, “Yangtze River scholars”, “Minjiang scholars” and well-known experts have hired special professors, guest professors, lecture professors in the school, and multinational cultural and educational experts teach at the school.
Wuyi University is a receiving institution for Chinese government scholarships for foreign students in China. It is also an overseas Chinese education base and a traditional Chinese culture experience promotion center in Fujian. In recent years, more than 400 foreign students from the United States, Russia, France, South Africa and other countries have come to the school for long-term or short-term studies; more than 60 first students from South Africa Free Province have successfully passed the Chinese Level 4 exam and entered the professional study stage. More than 20 foreign students won the Fujian Provincial Government Scholarship for Foreign Students; cooperating with the Sarawak University of Science and Technology in Malaysia to carry out exchange student projects; undertaking international friends, overseas Chinese, and Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau youth “Chinese Root Search Tour”, study tours, Chinese talent training Classes, cultural experience classes and other activities reached more than 12,000 people. We continued to deepen exchanges and cooperation between Fujian and Taiwan, and signed cooperation and exchange agreements with more than 20 universities such as the Taiwan University of Political Science, Changhua Normal University, and Kaohsiung University. Based on the successful establishment of the Fujian-Taiwan “3 + 1” cooperative school model, the school Established the Yushan Health Management College in cooperation with the Cross-Straits Cross-Strait Educational and Cultural Exchange Society (Taiwan Yushan University Alliance). It is the first in the country to pilot a new “4 + 0” model of Fujian-Taiwan cooperation in training application-oriented talents, absorbing the application of high-quality education resources in Taiwan Talent.
Wuyi University has been awarded the “National Model Unit for Greening”, “National Model Workers’ Home ”,“ National Advanced Unit for Student Apartment Management and Service ”,“ National May Fourth Red Banner Youth League Committee ”and“ National Model Workers’ Home for Education, Culture and Health System ” “Fujian Province’s master degree from 2018 to 2020 has been awarded to cultivating units to establish projects in colleges and universities”, “Provincial Civilized Campus”, “Fujian Provincial Advanced Unit for Recruitment” and “The Seventh Provincial Water Conservancy Scenic Spot in Fujian Province”.
