Introduction to Hainan Normal University

Hainan Normal University (海南师范大学, website) is located in Haikou, a beautiful coastal tourist city and a national historical and cultural city. It currently has two campuses, Long Kunnan and Guilin Yang, covering an area of about 3100 acres. It is the first group of journalism colleges and universities jointly approved by the Central Propaganda Department. It is an important training base for outstanding teachers and senior professionals.

Hainan Normal University has a long history of running schools. In the fall of 1949, the National Hainan Normal University was formally established, and it was the first public college in Hainan. The school’s predecessor can be traced back to the 44th year of Qing Emperor Kangxi’s Qiongtai College (1705); it was renamed as Hainan Teachers College in 1952 during the adjustment of the colleges and universities; in 1986, the establishment of Hainan Normal College was restored; Merged to form the new Hainan Normal University; in 2007 it was renamed Hainan Normal University. Over the past 69 years, the school has kept in mind the responsibilities and mission of the normal university, and has trained 170,000 people of all kinds for the society.

The university currently has 21 colleges (including 19 undergraduate teaching colleges), 65 undergraduate majors, 4 first-level disciplines authorized by doctoral degrees, 16 first-level disciplines authorized by master’s degrees, and 9 master’s degree authorized professional degrees, forming bachelor, Complete master’s and doctor’s education system for higher education talents, coordinated development of normal and non-teaching majors, and co-existing development of diploma education and non-degree education. It recruits students from 31 provinces (cities, districts) across the country, with 18,203 undergraduates, 827 graduate students, and 356 international students.

Hainan Normal University has 924 full-time teachers, including 225 professors and 306 associate professors. Among the teaching staff, three academicians were introduced flexibly, one was a young talent in the “Ten Thousand Talents Program”, six were national candidates for the “New Century Talent Project”, two were national and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions, and the Ministry of Education. In recent years, the university has approved 1 National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, 1 National Talent Training Model Innovation Experimental Zone, 1 National Professional Comprehensive Reform Pilot Specialty, 6 National Specialty Specialty, and National Excellent Teacher Training Program Reform Project One. It has won 1 second prize for national teaching achievements in higher education and 3 second prizes for national teaching achievements in basic education. It is the university that has won the most national teaching achievement awards in Hainan Province. The quality of student training has been continuously improved, and the employment rate has remained above 92%. It has won the 2016-2017 Hainan Provincial General College Graduate Employment and Entrepreneurship Evaluation A-level title, and is the only public undergraduate institution to receive this award.

In the past three years, Hainan Normal University has won 35 National Social Science Fund projects and 53 National Natural Science Fund projects; 16 Ministry-level projects including the Humanities and Social Sciences Project of the Ministry of Education; Hainan Science and Technology Plan Project, and Provincial Philosophy and Social Science There are 238 provincial-level projects such as planned series of projects. A total of 2679 academic papers were published, of which 574 were included in SCI and CSSCI; 44 provincial and ministerial awards were received, of which 12 were first prizes.

Hainan Normal University takes serving basic education and regional economic and social development as its responsibility. Since 2007, it has actively responded to the call of the Hainan Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government to carry out “double-five hundred normal students and in-service teachers to replace top-post support training” and “weekend mobile teacher training college” “And other projects to help Hainan’s basic education development have been affirmed by Comrade Liu Yandong, then State Councilor. Among them, 109 teachers and students from scientific research institutes in universities inside and outside the province have established 109 enterprises; 33 research institutions and enterprise R & D centers have been established; 5 companies; 53 companies that have established industry-university-research cooperation relationships with scientific research institutes in universities and colleges, assisting the parks in transforming 27 technological achievements and applying for 91 intellectual property rights; training more than 18,000 innovative and entrepreneurial talents; finding and screening seed fund support 46 start-up projects; helped the park enterprises to obtain investment and financing of more than 59 million yuan; the total output value of enterprises in 2018 is expected to reach 350 million yuan.

Hainan Normal University takes advantage of the location of the “Belt and Road” strategic bridgehead, and has released “Building the Dream, the Belt and Road” to the world in nine languages, which has aroused widespread concern in the society. The school has the only College of Preparatory Studies for Foreign Students in Hainan, and has established cooperative relationships with universities such as Beijing Normal University, strategic partnerships with local governments such as Haikou City, and 73 universities and educational institutions such as the University of New Mexico in the United States. Cooperated with the St. Petersburg State Film and Television University in Russia to organize an undergraduate education program on radio and television directorships, and cooperated with 10 universities including Pingtung University in Taiwan to carry out student exchange and mutual credit recognition projects, and co-established the Confucius Institute with Century University Malaysia. The school also made full use of the Hanban National Southeast Asian Chinese Teacher Training Base, the Chinese Education Base of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, and the Philippines Research Center of the Ministry of Education to actively expand overseas exchanges.
