Introduction to Guangdong University of Foreign Studies

Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS, website) is a key university in Guangdong Province with distinctive international characteristics. It is an important base for international talent training and foreign language and culture, foreign economic trade and international strategy research in South China. There are 19,704 full-time undergraduate students, 3,370 doctoral and postgraduate students, and more than 19,00 foreign students.

The university is located in the historical and cultural city of China and the economic center of South China. It has 3 campuses with a total area of 2292 mu. The North Campus is located in the northern foot of Baiyun Mountain in Guangzhou, covering an area of 939 mu. The South Campus is located in Guangzhou University City and covers an area of 1095 mu. Dalang Campus is located in Dalang, Guangzhou, covering an area of 258 acres. The campus is lined with trees, bridges and flowing waters, birds and flowers,.

Faculty

The university has a total of 2,036 faculty members and 1,325 full-time teachers, of which 54.87% are professors and associate professors, and 94.87% are masters or above.

Student Development

With the mission of cultivating high-quality citizens of globalization, we will promote the deep integration of professional teaching and foreign language teaching, and cultivate “double high” (high ideological quality and high professional level). “Two strong” (strong cross-cultural communication ability, strong practice and innovation ability), international vision, international rules, and international talents who can directly participate in international cooperation and competition and social responsibility. The school is a Chinese partner institution of the United Nations High-end Translation Talents Training University Outreach Program, a joint member of the International Association of University of Translation Studies (CIUTI) and the International Translators Union (FIT), and is also the secretariat of the National Translation Professional Degree Graduate Education Steering Committee and the Higher Education Department. The unit of the Secretariat of the School Translation Professional Teaching Cooperative Group, the first unit of the World Translation Education Alliance (WITTA), is the only foreign language school in the “Asian Campus” program advocated by the leaders of Japan and South Korea. It has a non-universal language undergraduate talent training base for foreign universities in the Ministry of Education – Non-Universal Language Teaching and Research Center, Ministry of Education Talent Training Model Innovation Experimental Area – International Business Talent Training Model Innovation Experimental Area, National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center – – Simultaneous Interpretation Experimental Teaching Center, Guangdong Province Collaborative Education Platform – Multilingual Advanced Translation Talents Collaborative Education Base and International Service Outsourcing Talent Collaboration Base. In 2018, the overall employment rate of undergraduate and graduate students in our school was 99.92% and 99.67%, respectively, and they continued to rank among the top universities in the country. The school recruits students from more than 20 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government, and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. The batches for admission are the first batch.

International Cooperation

Guangdong University of Foreign Studies strengthens all-round educational cooperation and exchanges between countries. As of now, it has been with the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Poland, Portugal, Finland, Iceland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Russia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, South Korea, North Korea. 464 universities and academic and cultural institutions in 57 countries and regions including Chile, Peru, Brazil, Cuba, Mexico, Colombia, Israel, Egypt, Cape Verde and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan have established cooperative exchanges. Our school currently operates six overseas Confucius Institutes and Confucius Classrooms: Confucius Institute at Sapporo University, Confucius Institute at Ural University, Confucius Institute at Catholic University of Santa Maria, Peru, Confucius Institute at Cape Verde University, Ain Shams University, Egypt Confucius Classroom and Confucius Institute at the University of Porto, Portugal. In addition, the school also collaborates with the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom to organize a master’s degree program in English teaching, and cooperates with the University of Reading in the United Kingdom to organize a master’s degree program in English education. In terms of management internationalization, the school implemented an overseas university post-study program. In the past six years, a total of 36 cadres have been dispatched to overseas universities.

Guangdong University of Foreign Studies’s teaching facilities are complete and advanced, ranking the leading level of similar institutions in China. With advanced campus network and management platform, it has a national experimental teaching demonstration center, 10 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers and a laboratory with a total area of 52,000 square meters. The total area of the library is 59,600 square meters, the total amount of paper resources in the collection is 3.0195 million, the Chinese and foreign paper journals are 1778, 2259, the Chinese and foreign electronic books are 118.09 million, and the Chinese and foreign electronic journals are 125,000. There are 160 foreign-language electronic databases, 14 self-built databases, and networked integrated management of procurement, cataloging, circulation and retrieval of 35 foreign language collections. The total value of existing fixed assets is about 2.959 billion yuan.
