Introduction to Dalian Medical University
Dalian Medical University (website) was founded in 1947. The school is located in Dalian, Liaoning Province, covering an area of 1.51 million square meters and a building area of 532,000 square meters. The school has a collection of 2.541 million books and 60 database resources. There are 23 colleges and 21 affiliated hospitals; 23 undergraduate majors.
The school has one national key discipline, and two subjects have entered the top 1% of ESI’s global institutions. The school has nearly 9,000 faculty members and medical staff. There are more than 190 doctoral tutors and more than 1,500 master tutors.
The school has 13,200 full-time students, including 4,500 graduate students, 7,500 undergraduates, and more than 950 international students. The school is the first batch of pilot projects of the “Excellent Doctor Education and Training Program” in the country and the second batch of pilot universities for transformation and development in Liaoning Province. The two majors ranked first in the provincial professional rankings. For seven consecutive years, the school won the first place in the Northeast National Division of the National College of Clinical Medical Skills Competition. In recent years, it won 4 national first prizes and two first prizes.
The school currently has three affiliated hospitals. The Affiliated First Hospital and the Affiliated Second Hospital are “Top 100 Hospitals in China”. The affiliated First Hospital is under the first batch of heart failure research centers and atrial fibrillation centers in China. It is the only liver transplant access unit in Dalian and has the most advanced bone marrow transplant ward in Northeast China.
The university promotes the internationalization of education. It was approved by the Chinese government scholarship to enroll international students. The university is part of the “Silk Road” scholarship program under the Ministry of Education. The students have covered 115 countries and regions on five continents, and have established cooperative relationships with more than 100 universities and research institutes in more than 30 countries and regions including the United States, Britain, Germany, France, Australia, Russia, and Japan. Dick University co-organized the “China-US Master of Public Health Sino-foreign Cooperation Program.” The school has joined the Global Silk Road University Alliance Health Sub-Union.
Every year, the school employs foreign experts and scholars to teach at the university. The university also sends more than 100 students and teachers to exchange and study at famous international universities.
At present, the school has successively cooperated with Ohio State University, University of Halsfield, University of Deakin, Curtin University, Moscow State University, Tokyo University of Science, etc.
English Teaching Department
The Department of Foreign Languages and Teaching of Dalian Medical University is a secondary school affiliated to Dalian Medical University. Mainly responsible for the teaching and research of college English, postgraduate English, medical English and Japanese. The Department of Foreign Languages Teaching and Research is currently divided into the first, second, third and fourth teaching and research sections, and undertakes foreign language teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate students in all majors.
The Foreign Language Teaching and Research Department currently has 42 in-service faculty members, including 40 English and Japanese teachers. Among the teachers, there are 4 professors, accounting for 10% of the total number; 17 associate professors, accounting for 42.5% of the total number; 19 lecturers, accounting for 47.5% of the total.
