Kyle, USA, English Teacher
Kyle is a foreign teacher at the Jiageng College of Xiamen University. Over the past eight years, he has been trying his Chinese life.
Kyle was born in Houston, USA. “The first time I left the United States was when I was 17 years old. I went to Germany, Poland and the United Kingdom. It was my first experience of a foreign culture and it made me feel very happy.”
After graduating from university, Kyle found a stable job without any surprise. However, in this stable life, he lacked what he wanted most, so he quit his job and came to a completely strange country—China.
On the south bank of Xiamen Bay in Zhangzhou, a new coastal city as beautiful as Kyle’s hometown of Houston, Kyle feels a new kind of exotic life here.
Kyle said: “In fact, I don’t feel lonely in China, even if I live alone.” Unlike staying in the United States, people living in China have a lot of social interactions. There are neighbors upstairs and downstairs, all around you. I am an acquaintance and friend, it is difficult to experience true loneliness here. The lively Chinese life almost fills up Kyle’s life.
