Tangshan Expats – Living in Tangshan

Ward, Australia, English Teacher

Five years ago, Ward from Australia came to Tangshan and worked as a foreign teacher at EF Education. Because he loved Chinese history and culture, he traveled many places in China, and five years of work and life made him understand and love Tangshan. Through his work, Ward enables more foreigners to understand China and Tangshan. In the next few years, he hopes to continue to engage in his favorite English education work and help more Chinese people improve their English. In 2012, he was awarded the “Phoenix Friendship Award” for foreign experts in Tangshan City.

“China is a big country with an ancient and splendid civilization, so I want to take a look.” Before coming to China, Ward had been to many countries, but no country attracted him as deeply as China and allowed him to stay for so long. “China is developing very rapidly, but it still retains its own history and culture in the process of development. I think this is very important to Chinese people, and it is also a big reason why I like China.” Ward said.

“In China, different places have different scenery and people have different customs. The more places they go, the more they desire to go to more different places.” Every year, Ward travels to 5 to 10 different places in China. local. This National Day just past, Ward went to Shanghai, Qingdao, Nanjing and other places with his mother and sister who came to Tangshan to see him. Ward said with a smile, “Nanjing is really beautiful, but I think it’s too hot in summer there. “

Ward came to Tangshan to work through a training organization. At first, Ward didn’t know Tangshan or where Tangshan was. “I only know Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Hangzhou. But the big cities all over the world are different except they look different. Besides, the other characteristics are similar. I hope to be able to visit a smaller city, so I came to Tangshan.”

Ward told reporters: “Tangshan is developing very rapidly. I have been working and living here for 5 years. Now Tangshan has many high-rise buildings and large shopping malls. You can buy a lot of things you like. There are many cars running on the street… It was very different when I first arrived here 5 years ago. I am also very happy to see these changes.”

During his 5 years in Tangshan, Ward also made many Tangshan friends, “They are very friendly, enthusiastic, and helpful. I like the people here very much. I also regard Tangshan as my second hometown.” Ward said.

Ward has changed from an ordinary foreign teacher to the Dean of Provost. The management of foreign teachers, teaching, and external promotion are all his own tasks. Although he is very busy every day, Ward really likes the challenges that work brings him.

Ward said: “In China, a foreign teacher may have 10 jobs to choose from. Therefore, we have to convince them through some external promotion activities and tell them why they come to China and work with us in Tangshan.” Some foreign teachers After coming, they will also face many problems. At this time, Ward will help them to understand and adapt to Chinese culture, help them solve their difficulties, and let them work and live happily in Tangshan.

What makes Ward happy is that during the five years of working in Tangshan, he watched some children grow up, learn English with his help, travel and study abroad. “I am very happy to be able to help them. And in getting along with them, I also learned a lot.” Ward said that in the future, he will continue to engage in English-related work and help more people improve their English.
