David King, from the United States, has been an English foreign teacher at Jiaxing College for two years. Now you don’t have to be surprised to hear the Chinese words “吃货” and “好好学习” from him. During this holiday, he chose to travel. How would they spend the long holiday in the United States? Now that Jiaxing has become his other home, what kind of life experience does he have here?
David still remembers the first time he celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival in 2008 when he was studying at the University of Pittsburgh in the United States. In order to let the students know more about traditional Chinese festivals, a Chinese teacher from Wuhan University arranged for everyone to perform a drama with the story of Chang’e.
When he was at university in the United States, David had taken Chinese as an elective. In the summer of 2009, he went to Wuhan University for short-term study. During this time, he went to many places in China: Beijing, Xi’an, Nanjing, Suzhou, Zhouzhuang, etc. After arriving in Jiaxing, he went to the surrounding areas, Haining, Pinghu, Tongxiang… “China is too big, even if you stay in China for the rest of your life, you may not have visited many places.” He said, compared to Shanghai and so on. The fast pace of the big city, Jiaxing’s life is very “relaxing”, and he also likes Jiaxing’s relaxing life.
Although life here makes him feel relaxed, it is not plain. In Jiaxing, David formed a rock band with some of his foreign friends. The band members are all foreign teachers from the United States. Two of them are in Jiaxing College, one in Pinghu and the other in Xiaoshan. David told reporters that he had studied piano for 8 years and fell in love with music at that time, but the teacher who taught him the piano died unfortunately, so he didnot continue. But two years ago, he became obsessed with drumming again, and now he is the drummer of the band. Every Monday, they have to rehearse in Pinghu. He enjoys the rehearsal, and his life here in Jiaxing.
