Dalian Expat On COVID-19

Toni Mead from the United States chose to stay in Dalian Jinpu New District with her husband and 3 sons to fight COVID-19 together with the “second hometown”. She said: “Dalian is my home.”

Two years ago, Toni came to Dalian Jinpu New District with her husband. Here, they have tasted all the beauty of China and decided to treat this as their home. However, a sudden epidemic disrupted the normal life rhythm of Ms. Tony’s family. Before the outbreak, Ms. Tony’s family planned to travel to Harbin. However, due to the epidemic, the trip failed. Because the number of infected people and even deaths announced by the government every day is increasing, this makes the Tony family feel a panic they have never had before.

What worries us most is that due to language barriers, we often rely on translation software to translate various messages to obtain information. This makes me feel that the news I get is not reliable and timely. We worry that we will be the last to know the news, and even be forgotten when the situation is at its worst. However, in the end we decided to stay. Because in the past two years, our friends in Dalian have accepted us sincerely, and we have made up our minds to live in China for a long time. Our home is here, and home is the safest place. Today, our family is very thankful that we have made the most correct choice.

There are also many foreigners who choose to stay here and stand with Dalian and China to fight the epidemic.

Gianluca Sambo (Italy), China Finance Director of Eldor Automotive Powertrain (Dalian) Co., Ltd.

“I was in China when SARS was epidemic. I know the current epidemic well because I watch the news in Jinpu New Area every day and also watch CNN. The Chinese government is very confident that China will eventually overcome the epidemic.”

Lorenzo Mazzucato (Italy), General Manager of Fermas Precision Forging (Dalian) Co., Ltd.

“Before the outbreak, I stayed in Dalian alone due to work reasons, and my family was in Italy. Now, although I am separated from my family, I am in Dalian very well. I see that the Chinese government is doing its utmost to protect the Chinese people. And foreign friends living in China.”

Kimberley Michalk (USA), Teacher, Dalian American International School

“I lived in Dalian for 12 years, and my children grew up here. I chose to stay because this is my home. Although I live in a gated community in Jinshitan, some people will regularly bring us daily necessities. Although the outbreak and control of the epidemic requires a certain process, I believe that we must be the final winner.”

Tsuda Takashi (Japan) Electronics Industry Designer

“My wife is Chinese. We did not return to Japan this year because the due date is approaching. After the outbreak of the new crown pneumonia, I started working from home on January 31. Today, the elevators in my community are disinfected twice a day. These are all great measures. As an “old Dalian native” who has lived in Jinpu New Area for 14 years, I have full confidence in China and the future of Dalian.”

Zhang Enying (Korea) “Hanxun” reporter

“Although all the media are overwhelmingly covering the new crown pneumonia epidemic, but in the Jinpu New District of Dalian, I have no panic. I choose to stay in this place and do my best while preventing myself. To help those around you.”
