Chengdu Attracts More Companies and Expats
Chengdu is one of the Chinese cities favored by the world’s corporate giants. In July of this year, Sanofi, the world’s leading pharmaceutical company, announced that the “Sanofi China Midwest Operation and Innovation Center” and “Sanofi Global R&D Operation Center” have settled in Chengdu. This is the first pharmaceutical innovation R&D center and regional headquarters directly invested and operated by a Fortune 500 pharmaceutical company in Chengdu.
Dell’s global vice president Zhou Bing once pointed out that Chengdu’s advantage lies in its relatively good IT industry foundation. Peng Zhenke, President of Sanofi China, said that the reason for choosing Chengdu is precisely because of the good ecosystem for the development of biomedicine. There are not only talents, universities, but also policy support. “As early as 36 years ago, Sanofi came to China, and I am honored to be able to accompany and witness China’s development and take-off along the way.”
In September 2019, Chengdu held the “Chengdu Summit Forum for Fortune 500 and World-renowned Enterprises”. A total of more than 100 people from Nokia, Citibank, JPMorgan Chase, Cisco, SAP and other top 500 global and well-known companies gathered in Chengdu to discuss the investment and development of global top 500 companies in Chengdu.
“Chengdu today has entered a new era of development and opened up a bright future.” In October, at the corporate matchmaking meeting held in Hangzhou in Chengdu, Geely Holding Group Chairman Li Shufu pointed out: “Chengdu has sent us projects and sent them. The opportunity for transformation and upgrading of high-quality development has allowed us to see a very bright future, allowing each of our entrepreneurs to absorb new energy and germinate new dreams.”
The number of Fortune 500 companies settled in Chengdu is ahead of many central and western cities. According to the 2018 Fortune 500 list released by Fortune magazine, currently, the number of Fortune 500 companies that have settled in Chengdu has reached 285, including 198 overseas companies and 87 domestic companies, reaching a record high.
