Introduction to Zhejiang A&F University
Founded in 1958, Zhejiang A&F University (浙江农林大学, ZAFU) is a key comprehensive university of Zhejiang Province located in Lin’an District, Hangzhou (west end of Hangzhou Chengxi Sci-Tech Corridor). ZAFU is co-established by Zhejiang Provincial Government and State Forestry Administration, directly under the auspices of Zhejiang Province. As a multidisciplinary university featuring in agriculture, forestry and biological environment, ZAFU offers degrees in 8 disciplines.
Over the past 60 years, Zhejiang A&F University has grown to cover three campuses, with a total area of 213 hectares. As a multi-disciplinary university, it offers eight discipline classes, with strengths in agriculture, forestry, and the biological environment. Currently, the disciplines of Engineering, Plant & Animal Science, and Agricultural Science rank in the top 1% of Essential Science Indicators; ZAFU is now ranked in the National Top 200 Universities according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities.
Zhejiang A&F University is composed of Donghu, Yijin and Zhuji campuses, covering 213 hectares and 900,000 square meters of building space.With 17 faculties and one independent college, ZAFU offers 62 undergraduate programs, 55 graduate programs and 1 postgraduate program. At present, Zhejiang A&F University has over 32,500 students (including over 1900 graduate students andmore than1000 international students) and 2022 staff. The disciplines of Engineering, and Plant & Animal Science rank in the top 1%of ESI, Forestry in the top 20% and Landscape in the top 30% of national disciplines evaluation.Zhejiang A&F University now ranks in National Top 200 universities of ARWU.
Zhejiang A&F University has one State Key Laboratory of Subtropical Silviculture, one National Engineering Technology Research Center of Wood-based Resources, one National Laboratory of High Efficient Preparation Technology of Biopesticide, one International Tea Culture Base, and 22 Provincial and Ministerial Sci-tech Innovative Laboratories.

About Hangzhou

With a number of means of transport at your disposal, getting around the city is super easy. Do not feel like taking the metro to visit the scenery spots in the city? Then you can always bike there. Want to tour around a nearby city on weekends? Train rides are probably what you’d be looking for. Cities of Shanghai, Nanjing and Suzhou are all just within hours’ distance by train or car.
Arts & culture
Hangzhou’s cultural richness constantly surprises you. Three of China’s most important museums, China National Silk Museum, China National Tea Museum, Zhejiang Provincial Museum are all located in Hangzhou. If you are interested in opera, then you’ve come to the right place for there are lots of theaters in Hangzhou giving performance of opera shows!
Food
Hangzhou is a culinary paradise with a large number of delicious dishes. Hangzhou’s local cuisine enjoys a nation-wide reputation and dishes prepared in its style are reputed to be “fresh, tender, soft and smooth, with a mellow fragrance”. Some of the better-known examples of Hangzhou’s regional cuisine are: West Lake Fish in Sweet and Sour Sauce, Dongpo Pork, Beggar’s Chicken, Fried Shrimps with Longjing Tea, and Hangzhou Soy-sauce Duck. Sounds interesting? Behind these dishes, there always seems to be a beautiful story linked with a historical figure in Hangzhou. In addition to the traditional Hangzhou food or Chinese cuisine, plenty of restaurants offer south-eastern or western-style food. In Hangzhou, you never have to worry about going hungry.
