Ningde Expats – Living in Ningde
Andy Werling, USA, English Teacher
Andy, an American foreign teacher at Ningde Normal University, from Indiana, USA. He came to Ningde six years ago.
Six years ago, Andy planned to find a job in China. He searched the Ningde Normal University for recruitment information. After successfully passing the assessment, he set foot on Ningde. “I have never been to Ningde before. I flew from the United States to Shanghai Pudong Airport and met the staff of Ningde Normal University who came to pick me up. Then I took a train to Ningde and everything went smoothly.” Andy said.
In the six years, what has made Andy feel most strongly is the rapid development of Ningde. He told reporters, “When I first came there were no foreigners. It was easier to get people’s attention when I went to the street. After a long time, people often invited me to make tea.” Andy said with a smile.
More convenient transportation, more beautiful environment, more modern urban construction all left a deep impression on Andy. “The development is really fast. Ningde is a small city in China compared to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and other places, but compared to some cities in my hometown in the United States, it is considered a big city. Although it is not possible to fly directly in Ningde, But there are high-speed trains and buses, so travel is very convenient.” Andy took out a round-trip timetable and contact information from Ningde South Station to Fuzhou Changle Airport and said with a thumbs up.
The changes in Ningde are vividly remembered by Andy, and the reason why he chooses to settle down and work and live all year round is the life in this small coastal city of Ningde. Andy said: “Everyone is very friendly. This is the main reason for the quick adaptation in a foreign country. The price of buying vegetables on the street is very favorable. I have never been slaughtered because of the face of a foreigner, and I have never been here. The city is lost.”
“Ningde has mountains and water, the scenery is beautiful, the air is fresh, and the ecology is good. I also went to Taimushan, Xiapu and other places. The city is not big or small, just good. Every day I go for a walk, I smile at strangers, and they return. With a smile. Traveling to the surrounding towns and villages is not only convenient but also very comfortable. Unlike some neighboring Southeast Asian countries, it feels bad to meet people who sell goods before they get off the bus.” Andy said.
