Introduction to Shanghai Jiao Tong University
Shanghai Jiao Tong University (website) is one of the most famous universities in China with a reputation for being at home and abroad. It is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education and co-constructed with Shanghai. After more than 120 years of unremitting efforts, Shanghai Jiaotong University has become a first-class, internationally renowned university in China that is “comprehensive, research-oriented and international”.
Introduction to School of Foreign Languages
The School of Foreign Languages is now composed of Department of English, Japanese, German, Translation, French and Russian, Public English Teaching Center and Graduate English Teaching and Research Department. It also has a Cross-Cultural Research Center, Martin Applied Linguistics Research Center, Baker Translation. And the Intercultural Research Center, Language Testing and Assessment Center, Language, Intelligence and Neuroscience Research Base, Speech-Language-Hearing Research Center, China Image Research Center, Multicultural and Comparative Literature Research Center and Australian Research Center, etc. It is the birthplace of the National College English Test Band 4 and 6.
In 2017, the foreign language discipline won the Class A ranking in the fourth round of subject evaluation of the Ministry of Education, ranking first in the country with 2%-5%, ranking fourth in the country.
The school attaches great importance to academic exchanges. In recent years, it has held 78 academic conferences, including 56 domestic conferences, 22 international conferences, and more than 130 academic lectures. The professors are the editors of Frontiers of Narrative Studies, Journal of Second Language Studies, and Language Testing in Asia. International Journal of Tesol Studies and other four international academic journals as well as the Chinese academic journal “Contemporary Foreign Languages Research”, edited and published “The Frontiers of Applied Linguistics” and ” Corpus and Cross” in internationally renowned publishers such as Lautry and Springer. Cultural Studies and other English series. The organization of these conferences and the publication of journals have greatly promoted academic exchanges and cooperation at home and abroad.
The School of Foreign Languages currently has more than 70 full-time doctoral students, more than 160 full-time graduate students, 341 full-time undergraduates and 63 international students. In addition to the student training of the college, the School of Foreign Languages also undertakes the teaching of public English for more than 30,000 students.
In the future, the School of Foreign Languages will focus on talent cultivation, use the implementation of international strategy as a booster, serve the national strategy as the guiding ideology, focus on major theoretical and practical issues, and vigorously promote the intersection of foreign language disciplines and other disciplines. And integration, to cultivate high-end talents of foreign language majors with international vision, and to create a world-class cross-disciplinary group of foreign language disciplines.
