Ms. Meng: The Compassionate Guardian for Foreign Teachers

Ms. Meng, a veteran in foreign affairs, has spent decades dedicated to serving foreign teachers at Jianghan University, earning her the title of their “trusted confidant.”

Unwavering Support
Since 1987, Meng has managed foreign teachers with a people – first approach. She deeply understands their cultural backgrounds, ensuring a respectful and inclusive work environment. Working around the clock, she handles everything from paperwork to daily needs, like helping with visa applications, medical appointments, and package deliveries. Her dedication has made such an impact that former teachers still visit her when back in Wuhan.

Since 1987, Meng has been overseeing the management of foreign teachers at Jianghan University. Her expertise, meticulous approach, and human – centric management style have won the deep respect of foreign educators, creating a warm, harmonious environment for work and life while enhancing the university’s international image. Understanding that communication is key, Meng takes the time to learn about each teacher’s cultural background and traditions, ensuring a respectful and inclusive workplace. Under her guidance, new foreign teachers quickly integrate into the team, fostering strong collaborative spirit.

For Meng, the job of caring for foreign teachers knows no boundaries of time or day. She is always on call, whether it’s helping with paperwork, arranging for housing, or sorting out daily logistics. She frequently shuttles between the university and immigration offices to process work permits and residence visas for foreign teachers. She accompanies them to medical check – ups, assists with currency exchanges, and helps with package deliveries. Her responsiveness to their needs has left a lasting impression—former foreign teachers who have left the university often make special trips to visit her when they return to Wuhan.

Cultural Bridge – Builder

During the COVID – 19 pandemic, when the campus was under lockdown, she stayed on campus to assist foreign teachers facing various challenges. When a South African teacher stranded abroad couldn’t access his salary due to issues with his bank card, Meng took the risk of infection to make monthly international transfers, relieving his financial stress.

To promote cultural exchange, Meng actively organizes and leads foreign teachers to participate in various cultural events on and off campus. These include activities like “Charming China—The Most Attractive Chinese Cities in the Eyes of Foreign Experts,” “My Years in Wuhan: Story – sharing Sessions by Expats,” and “Green Cycling Events for Foreign Residents in Hubei.” She also regularly introduces Chinese culture to foreign teachers and invites immigration officers to campus for legal lectures, creating a rich, diverse cultural exchange atmosphere.

Meng’s professional excellence and humanistic spirit have significantly contributed to the success of foreign teachers at the university. Thanks to her efforts, foreign educators have not only excelled in teaching but also actively promoted cultural exchange, winning numerous honors. For example, Italian professor Sara Prato received both the “Chinese Government Friendship Award” and the “Order of the Star of Italy.” Many other foreign experts have been awarded the “Wuhan Yellow Crane Friendship Award.” The university has repeatedly been named an “Advanced Unit in Foreign Expert Management” in Wuhan and was the first in the city to establish a Foreign Experts’ Reading Room.
