Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) is a key university under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education of China and is one of the oldest universities in China.
Xi’an Jiaotong University, as one of the first batch of the universities in China, was supported by the central Government at the seventh and eighth five-year plan, as well as China’s “Project 211” and “Project 985” to develop into a world-class university.Now, Xi’an Jiaotong University is on the List of World-class Universities and First-class Disciplines (abbreviated as “Double First-class”) released in 2017 by the Ministry of Education of China, as a Double First-class university in Category A, which means that the government will support it financially to develop into a world-class university, and its eight disciplines into the first-class level in the world.

School of Foreign Languages at XJTU
The history of the School of Foreign Languages of Xi’an Jiaotong University can be traced back to the Western Languages Section of Nanyang College of Public Administration in 1897. Its predecessor was the Department of Foreign Literature of Jiaotong University established in 1928. At present, the college has a doctoral degree in interdisciplinary studies of language and culture systematics, a master’s degree in foreign language and literature, and a master’s degree in translation. It has English (including English, English, French, English and Russian) and Japanese (including Japanese and English). And 3 undergraduate majors in French; nearly 70 doctors in language and culture systematics and master’s degree in foreign languages and applied linguistics, English language and literature, Japanese language and literature, French language and literature, and master’s degree in translation.
The school consists of English Department, Japanese Department, French Department, German Department, Russian Department, College English Teaching Center, Postgraduate English Teaching Center, MTI Education Center and other teaching management units, and Foreign Language Research Center, Japanese Studies Center, and Cross-Cultural Studies. The research institutions include a teaching and testing center and a training center.
The school has nearly 210 faculty members, including 23 professors and 72 associate professors. About 30 foreign experts and teachers teach at the college every year. In addition, more than 20 visiting professors and part-time professors were hired. There are more than 480 undergraduate students, more than 130 graduate students, and more than 30 doctoral students.
The school has established stable exchanges and cooperation with 16 famous universities in the United States, Japan, Germany, France, Australia and other countries. About 100 undergraduates go abroad to exchange each year, and more than 10 teachers go abroad to study or engage in cooperative research. Every year, more than 20 well-known scholars from home and abroad are invited to give lectures in our school.

Working Conditions
Two foreign teachers share one office. Each foreign teacher is equipped with a bookcase, a desk chair, a computer. The office is air conditioned and heated for a comfortable stay.

Each foreign teacher has a on-campus apartment. The apartment has a two-bedrooms with facilities including TV, telephone, internet cable, heating, water heater, gas cooker, microwave, refrigerator and washing machine.
