In the tide of globalization, cross – cultural exchanges and integration have become a crucial force driving the development of the world. Nona Shiroyan, an Armenian teacher from the School of Design at our university, is an outstanding representative of this force. Recently, her story has received special attention and coverage from China Global Television Network (CGTN).
Since 2020, Nona Shiroyan has been teaching at the School of Design. Her arrival has not only brought international teaching resources to the college but also won wide acclaim from students with her unique design perspective and cross – cultural teaching philosophy. In the interview with CGTN, Nona shared how she uses design to build a cultural bridge between Armenia and China, as well as her work and life experiences in China.
Nona said that although the cultures of Armenia and China may seem different on the surface, there are many similarities at their core, especially in the emphasis on family and the respect for traditional culture. This resonance makes her design works warmer and more human – oriented. Her love and in – depth understanding of Chinese culture endow her design works with not only an international perspective but also a profound cultural heritage.
Nona is good at combining traditional hand – drawing techniques with modern digital technology to create design works that possess both traditional charm and a contemporary feel. Her innovative spirit has not only promoted the improvement of the teaching quality of the cooperative education projects in the School of Design but also provided students with a broader design vision. In the classroom, she always encourages students to believe in themselves and bravely pursue their design dreams. Her enthusiasm and conviction inspire every student.
In China, Nona constantly seeks new experiences. She encourages young designers from both China and Armenia to embrace cultural exchanges, dare to break the routine, and meet challenges. During the cross – cultural design journey, she also helps students develop their unique design styles.
The person in charge of the School of Design said that the CGTN report is an affirmation of Ms. Nona’s outstanding contributions to the field of design education in China.
