Zhongshan Torch Polytechnic (中山火炬职业技术学院, website), founded in April 2004, is located in the national Zhongshan Torch High-tech Industrial Development Zone, and is naturally surrounded by eight national industrial bases in the development zone. The five major industries of the industrial park, four major emerging industries, and more than 1,000 companies have provided a wealth of internship training resources for the college.

Zhongshan Torch Polytechnic currently has nearly 7,000 full-time students and more than 6,000 registered students in continuing education. There are 426 faculty members, including 22 professors, 97 associate professors (including senior engineers), and 28 doctors. There are 8 professional teaching departments including packaging printing department, equipment manufacturing department, electronic engineering department, information engineering department, optoelectronic engineering department, biomedicine department, modern service department, management engineering department, packaging planning and design, applied electronics technology, electronics 28 majors including business, optoelectronic manufacturing and application technology, pharmaceutical production technology, international economy and trade, mobile internet application technology, mold design and manufacturing technology.

After more than ten years of development, Zhongshan Torch Polytechnic has become a national backbone higher vocational college, a “first-class high-vocational” project construction unit in Guangdong, an advanced collective of Guangdong vocational education, and an advanced collective of “Belt and Road” industry-education alliance in Guangdong unit.

Zhongshan Torch Polytechnic was born from the National Torch Program. The China Torch Program is a guiding plan for the development of China’s high-tech industry. It was approved by the Chinese government in August 1988 and organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology (formerly the National Science and Technology Commission).

The purpose of the “Torch Plan” is to implement the strategy of rejuvenating the country through science and education, implement the general policy of reform and opening up, make use of the advantages and potentials of China’s scientific and technological forces, and take the market as a guide to promote the commercialization of high-tech achievements, industrialization of high-tech products, and high-tech industries. globalization.

The construction and development of high-tech industrial development zones is one of the important contents of the Torch Plan. The high-tech industrial development zone is built on the basis of intelligence-intensive and open environmental conditions, mainly relying on China’s own scientific and technological and economic strength, and through local optimization of soft and hard environments to maximize the transformation of scientific and technological achievements into real productivity. Domestic and foreign markets, concentrated areas for the development of China’s high-tech industries. The key development areas of the Torch Program project are: electronics and information, biotechnology, new materials, opto-mechatronics, new energy, energy efficiency and environmental protection. Through the implementation of the Torch Plan project, high-tech enterprises and enterprise groups have been created.

The development of human resources is the key to the development of high-tech industries. Cultivating and attracting high-quality talents is the fundamental guarantee for the commercialization, industrialization and internationalization of high-tech achievements. It is a key task of the Torch Plan to train a large number of technology management personnel and technology industry personnel who understand technology, good management, management, courage to innovate, and dare to fight hard in the market competition.

The Zhongshan Torch High-tech Industrial Development Zone was jointly established by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Guangdong Provincial Government and the Zhongshan Municipal Government in 1990, and was approved by the State Council as a national high-tech zone in 1991. With the implementation of the development strategy in the east of Zhongshan City, the Torch Development Zone and Cuiheng New District have achieved continuous development, and the area has expanded from the original 90 square kilometers to 230 square kilometers. Taking this as a platform, through the Shenzhen-China Corridor, it actively connects with Shenzhen Qianhai Free Trade Zone and actively integrates into the development strategy of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao “Great Bay Area”.

On 230 square kilometers of hot soil, China Electronics (Zhongshan) Base, China Packaging and Printing Industry Base, National Health Science and Technology Industry Base, National High-Tech Product Export Processing Base, China Technology Market Industrialization (Zhongshan) Demonstration Base, Eight national-level bases, including the National Torch Plan Zhongshan (Linhai) Equipment Manufacturing Base, Zhongshan National Modern Service Industry Digital Medical Industrialization Base, and National Advanced Equipment Manufacturing (Zhongshan) High-tech Industrialization Base National High-tech Industrial Development Zone with a brand of base.

A solid industrial foundation and a flexible and efficient school-running model provide a good practice carrier for the in-depth development of vocational education production, study, and research cooperation. In July 2016, the Trilateral Vocational Technical Education Research Center of the Ministry of Education, the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, and the Zhongshan Municipal People’s Government signed an agreement to set up the “South China Vocational Education Industry-University-Research Cooperation Experimental Base” in Zhongshan Torch Polytechnic. Establish an integrated experimental platform of “political, industrial, academic, research, and financial”, and jointly carry out theoretical research and practical exploration of vocational education-industry-industry-research cooperation.
