Introduction to Zhejiang Chinese Medical University

Zhejiang Chinese Medical University (ZCMU, website) is located in the historical and cultural city on the south bank of Qiantang River in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. In June 1959, Zhejiang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine was formally established. The school is located in the former site of Zhejiang University in Qingchun Street, Hangzhou. In March 2000, the overall move to the current location. In February 2006, it was renamed as Zhejiang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

The university is the first group of higher-level Chinese medicine colleges in the country to recruit and train Chinese medicine graduate students. It obtained enrollment rights in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and recruit students from Hong Kong. The university has 12 colleges and 1 independent college (Binjiang College). There are 3 affiliated hospitals.

The university currently has more than 16,000 full-time students (including independent colleges), including more than 13,500 undergraduates, 2027 master students, 235 doctoral students, and 513 international students.

The university adheres to the quality of the school and continuously improves the professional level of the disciplines. There are 1 national key disciplines and 44 provincial and ministerial key disciplines, including 3 key disciplines in Zhejiang Province and 25 key disciplines of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. There are 3 post-doctoral research stations in traditional Chinese medicine, Chinese pharmacy, and integrated Chinese and Western medicine; 14 doctoral programs, covering 2 first-level disciplines of Chinese medicine and traditional Chinese medicine and clinical secondary disciplines of integrated Chinese and Western medicine; 49 master’s degree, covering Chinese medicine 6 Chinese medicines, Chinese and Western medicine, clinical medicine, nursing, pharmacy, 6 first-level disciplines and bio-chemical secondary disciplines, as well as self-administered audiology, Chinese medicine health management, Chinese medicine informatics, Chinese medicine marketing, Chinese medicine 7 excerpts of master’s programs in bioengineering, laboratory animals and comparative pharmacology and stomatological reconstitution medicine; with the right to confer doctoral degree in clinical medicine (Chinese medicine) and the granting degree in clinical medicine and master’s degree in Chinese medicine. 26 undergraduate majors. The school insists on strengthening the school and continuously optimizes the structure of the teaching staff. There are 4,518 faculty members.

International Cooperation

The school takes advantage of the characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine and actively promotes international exchanges and cooperation. It has established cooperative relations with more than 90 educational, scientific research and medical units in more than 30 countries and regions such as the United States, Britain and the Czech Republic. It has hired more than 50 foreign experts and scholars as visiting professors and established Confucius Institutes at the University of Coimbra, Portugal. Established overseas Chinese medicine centers in Romania and Israel. The school is the first group of higher-level Chinese medicine colleges that have obtained enrollment rights in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and the first batch of exemption to recruit Hong Kong students. It has established a Chinese medicine culture education base for students from Zhejiang Province, and recruited students from 57 countries and regions.
