Introduction to Yulin University

Yulin University (榆林学院，website) is located in the national key energy and chemical base, historical and cultural city and modern characteristic agricultural demonstration base – Yulin City, Shaanxi Province. The university is the only provincial undergraduate college in Yulin City. The predecessor of the university was the Jude Branch of Xi’an Teachers College, which was founded in 1958. The history of the school can be traced back to the Jude Teachers’ School founded in 1923. In 2003, it was named Yulin University. In 2016, the university became a national transformation and development pilot institution. In 2018, the university was identified as a first-class applied undergraduate institution by Shaanxi Province, and was identified as a new master’s degree authorized unit by the Ministry of Education, and began enrolling students in 2019.

The university now covers an area of 840 acres and the school building area is 476,000 square meters. There are 15 secondary colleges, 55 undergraduate majors, and more than 13,000 full-time students. There are 1 national new engineering research and practice project, 1 national comprehensive comprehensive reform pilot project, 3 national excellent agricultural and forestry personnel education and training program pilot professional projects, and 4 provincial postgraduate joint training demonstration workstations in Shaanxi Province. There are 1 educational pilot college, 1 provincial key discipline, 2 provincial key support disciplines, 1 first-class professional construction project in Shaanxi Province, 6 first-class professional cultivation projects, 4 provincial-level specialty programs, and provincial-level talent training model innovation. There are 4 experimental areas, 3 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 4 provincial-level professional comprehensive reform pilot projects, 1 provincial-level undergraduate innovation and entrepreneurship education practice base, 4 provincial-level teaching teams, and 7 provincial-level teaching masters. There are 16 provincial-level quality courses, 6 provincial-level excellent teaching materials, and 21 provincial-level teaching reform research projects. In recent years, the university has won one first prize for teaching achievements in Shaanxi Province and seven second prizes.

There are 1136 faculty members in the university, including 735 full-time teachers, 87 high-ranking titles, 301 deputy senior titles, 790 with master’s degree or above, and 152 doctoral degrees. The university has set up an academician expert workstation, and has appointed 6 academicians of the two academies and 2 scholars from Changjiang. There are 1 national “Thousand Talents” experts, 1 outstanding expert in Shaanxi Province, and 1 advanced worker in Shaanxi Province. Three or five talents were selected as one expert, two special talents, four third talents, four provincial young science and technology stars, two provincial-level SME chief engineers, six provincial-level teaching masters, and three master’s tutors. There are 16 experts with outstanding contributions in Yulin City.

Since the establishment of the school, the university has trained more than 60,000 high-quality applied talents. The graduates have spread throughout Shaanxi and surrounding provinces and regions, and have made important contributions to regional economic and social development. They have been widely praised and praised by all walks of life.

In the past five years, it has undertaken 821 projects of various national, provincial and municipal levels, with a funding of about 70 million yuan, including 40 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation and 1 National Social Science Fund. More than 70 awards have been awarded for scientific research achievements at or above the city level. There are 1 Shaanxi Northern History and Culture Museum, 2 provincial key laboratories, 1 provincial engineering technology research center, 1 provincial key social science research base, 2 provincial science and technology innovation teams, and municipal science and technology innovation. There are 2 teams, 43 municipal key laboratories, engineering technology research centers, research institutes and other platforms. Five national platforms of Chongqing University, Xi’an University of Technology, Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology, Yankuang Group and Yulin City Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau will be built in our school or Yulin Experimental and Demonstration Base.

Adhere to open education and establish inter-school exchanges and cooperation with more than 20 universities in the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Russia, Hungary, Poland, Spain, South Korea, Malaysia and other countries. Jointly with the University of Huffington, UK, a Sino-foreign cooperative undergraduate education project approved by the Ministry of Education (Machinery Design, Manufacturing and Automation). Each year, a number of teachers are selected to go to universities outside the country to conduct academic exchanges and Chinese international education. Many outstanding college students are selected to go to universities outside the country to study for degrees or participate in exchange programs. It has the qualifications to recruit and train international students. Currently, there are nearly 40 international students from 15 countries studying at the university. It has signed a counterpart support agreement with six universities including Xi’an Jiaotong University; jointly cultivated a master’s degree in agricultural promotion and a master’s degree in engineering with the Northwest A&F University and Xi’an Petroleum University; and established a postgraduate joint training demonstration workstation in cooperation with Northwest A&F University and Northwest University.

Adhering to the school-running idea of “deepening cooperation between industry, university and research institutes to serve local economic development”, it closely combines the needs of local industries and industries, and consolidates the “Selection of Shaanbei White Cashmere Goat Breeding”, “Agricultural Water Saving”, “Clean Coal Technology” and “Shaanbei Folk Customs”. Research directions such as culture have produced a number of applied high-level scientific research achievements, solved some key problems that constrain regional economic and social development, and have been promoted and applied to Yulin social production practice, and achieved good economic and social benefits. . In particular, it successfully cloned the first somatic cell of the country, the North Shaanxi White Cashmere Goat, and cultivated the world’s largest genetically edited cashmere goat population, which led the Yulin City scientific research level to enter the Shaanxi Province and even the country. It has signed cooperation agreements with more than 40 enterprises and institutions such as China Academy of Aerospace Systems Science and Engineering, Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum Group, Shaanxi Yulin Energy Group Co., Ltd. and Shaanxi Provincial Sand Control Research Institute. In 2014, the university and the Yulin Municipal Government and 13 universities and 108 enterprises and institutions in the province jointly established the Yulin City Industry-University-Research Cooperation Alliance. In 2015, it won the “China Industry-University-Research Cooperation Promotion Award”. It is the National Excellent Agricultural and Forestry Talents Education and Training Program Pilot School, Shaanxi Energy and Chemical Talents Training Base, and the first batch of social science popularization bases in Shaanxi Province.
