Introduction to Yanbian University
Yanbian University (延边大学, website) is located in Yanji City, the capital of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture of Jilin Province, which enjoys the reputation of “Hometown of Education”. The government and the Ministry of Education jointly support the construction of universities, the People’s Government of Jilin Province and the National Civil Affairs Commission jointly support the construction of universities.
Yanbian University was founded in 1949 and is one of the institutions of higher learning established by the Communist Party of China in ethnic minority areas. Currently, there are 20 colleges and 75 undergraduate majors; 8 first-level doctoral degree disciplines and 1 second-level doctoral degree discipline; 31 first-level master’s degree disciplines and 5 second-level master’s degree disciplines; 18 Professional master degree authorization points, 4 post-doctoral research stations, 1 post-doctoral research station. In 2017, the foreign language and literature discipline was selected as the country’s “double first-class” construction discipline. In addition, the school also has 1 national key discipline, 4 “top priority” first-level disciplines in Jilin Province universities, and 12 provincial key characteristic construction disciplines. In the “13th Five-Year Plan” for the establishment of high-level discipline projects in Jilin Province universities, our university has been approved 15 first-class discipline construction disciplines, advantageous construction disciplines, and emerging interdisciplinary disciplines.

Yanbian University currently has 2,222 faculty members, including 1,441 full-time teachers, 723 of which are full-time teachers with a doctorate degree, 612 have a master’s degree, and 790 have a deputy or higher title. They have invited Academician Yang Zhenning More than 100 well-known experts at home and abroad are our high-end talents, honorary professors, adjunct professors and visiting professors.
The university recruits students from 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions nationwide. There are currently 24,257 full-time students (including 4,201 doctoral and graduate students, 18,823 undergraduates and 1,233 college students), and 428 international students from 29 countries . At present, there are 32 research institutes at various levels above the provincial level, including the Key Laboratory of Biological Resources and Functional Molecules of the Ministry of Education of the Ministry of Education and the Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of Korea. In the past three years, it has undertaken a total of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and provincial and departmental projects. There are 372 projects and 28 international cooperation projects; 6,311 academic papers have been published, of which 1,077 are international papers (SCI, EI, ISTP).
Yanbian university has established cooperation and exchange relationships with 467 universities and research institutions or international academic organizations in 29 countries and 2 regions (Hong Kong, Taiwan). It has built a Confucius Institute at Chungbuk University in South Korea. It has established inter-university relationships with the world-renowned universities such as Far Eastern University in Russia, Meiji University in Japan, Seoul University in South Korea, Kim Il Sung University in North Korea, Stockholm University in Sweden, and University of Pittsburgh in the United States, and exchanges and exchanges nearly 1,000 experts and scholars each year.
