Introduction to Xuzhou Medical University
The history of Xuzhou Medical University (徐州医科大学, website) can be traced back to the Jiangsu Provincial Medical and Political College, which was founded in 1934. It was relocated from Nanjing Medical College to Xuzhou in 1958 to establish Xuzhou Branch of Nanjing Medical College. It was renamed Xuzhou Medical College in 1960 and renamed in 2016. Xuzhou Medical University.
The school has 18 colleges (departments), 21 affiliated hospitals, and 15 clinical colleges. It has more than 14,000 full-time students and more than 1,300 faculty members. There are 27 undergraduate majors covering 4 disciplines of medicine, science, engineering, and management. There are 2 doctoral degrees authorized for first-level disciplines in clinical medicine and biology, and 7 master’s degrees for clinical medicine, basic medicine, biology, biomedical engineering, pharmacy, public health and preventive medicine, and medical technology. Stomatology, pharmacy, public health, nursing 5 professional degree authorization points, with the right to waive master’s degree, and set up two post-doctoral research stations in biology and clinical medicine and post-doctoral research stations in clinical medicine. A comprehensive, multi-level education system has been formed from undergraduate, graduate to postdoctoral, from full-time to adult education, and international student education.
Xuzhou Medical University attaches great importance to disciplinary construction and scientific research, and has a number of provincial key disciplines and provincial dominant discipline groups, of which the clinical medical discipline ESI ranks in the top 1% of the world; it has won the national and local joint engineering laboratory, the provincial collaborative innovation center, and the provincial level. A number of scientific research platforms such as key laboratories and provincial engineering technology research centers. In the past five years, the school has undertaken more than 1,000 scientific research projects at various levels, including more than 200 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China; published nearly 1,000 papers including SCI and EI, among which many papers have been published in high-level journals such as the journal of the American Academy of Sciences. ; More than 20 provincial and ministerial scientific research awards, including the National Science and Technology Progress Award and the National Natural Science Award.
Xuzhou Medical University has continuously strengthened the construction of master teams, accelerated the cultivation and introduction of high-level outstanding talents, the number of teachers has increased steadily, and the structure has been continuously optimized. In recent years, the school has continuously strengthened foreign exchanges and cooperation. It has established with more than 30 well-known overseas universities and research institutes, such as Harvard University, Tufts University, National University of Singapore, University of Wollongong, South Korea, Yonsei University, and University of London. Inter-university partnerships have established teacher training bases at universities such as the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Eulji University in South Korea. In addition, the school has hosted (organized) international academic conferences many times, and the school’s international influence has further expanded.
Anesthesia education is a characteristic and advantage of the school. The school took the lead in establishing an undergraduate major in anesthesiology in the country, and established it as a national specialty of higher education. The teaching team of anesthesiology is a “national excellent teaching team.” . The anesthesiology subject has been evaluated as a national key discipline cultivation and construction site, a national key laboratory cultivation and construction site, a Jiangsu Province Key Laboratory, a Jiangsu Province Key Clinical Specialty, a Jiangsu Province Key Medical Discipline, and a Jiangsu Province “135 Project” key discipline. Therefore, the school is known as “the cradle of cultivating Chinese anesthesiology talents”.
