Wuhan University of Science and Technology (website) is a local high-level university jointly built by the provincial and ministerial departments. It is a national “Central and Western University Basic Capacity Building Project” and is selected as a “double-class” key university in Hubei Province. In 1998, according to the needs of the reform of the national higher education management system, the school became the first batch of transfer schools that implemented “the central and local co-construction and the management of the people’s government of Hubei Province”. In 1999, it was renamed Wuhan University of Science and Technology.

Wuhan University of Science and Technology has three campuses, namely Qingshan, Huangjiahu and Hongshan. The total campus area is 1,709,300 square meters, and the school building area is 1,240,700 square meters. The fixed assets were 2.456 billion yuan; the total value of teaching equipment was 420 million yuan; the library collection was 2,598,300 paper books, and the electronic books were 356,400. There are more than 24,000 full-time undergraduate students and more than 6,000 doctoral and master students. The campus is surrounded by lakes and rivers, beautiful scenery, complete teaching facilities and perfect school conditions. It is the “National Greening Model Unit” of “Hubei Province Ecological Garden School”.

Wuhan University of Science and Technology has a complete range of disciplines and distinctive features. It has built a comprehensive university discipline system that is based on work, science and engineering, and coordinated development of engineering, science, management, medicine, literature, economics, law, philosophy, art, and teaching. There are 20 teaching colleges, 76 undergraduate majors (75 undergraduate enrollment majors), 8 post-doctoral research stations, 8 first-level doctoral degree programs, and 38 second-level doctoral degree programs, 32 ones. Master’s degree program and 167 second-level master’s degree programs and 18 master’s degree programs. There are 1 national key (cultivation) discipline, 10 provincial key disciplines, 5 provincial key (cultivation) disciplines, and 2 provincial-level dominant discipline groups. In the fourth round of national assessment, 11 disciplines ranked first in Hubei Province; materials science and engineering, metallurgy and mining engineering, mechanical engineering and other three disciplines were selected as “domestic first-class disciplines” in Hubei Province; materials science Engineering disciplines entered the top 1% of ESI’s global rankings.

Wuhan University of Science and Technology actively implements the strategy of “strengthening talents” and has more than 2,600 faculty members, including more than 1,600 full-time teachers. There are 5 full-time and double-educated academicians, 1 foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Engineering, 9 national “Thousand Talents” innovative talents, 1 “Changjiang Scholar”, 2 “National Jieqing”, and 1 national famous teacher. 1 national model teacher, 5 national outstanding teachers, 1 national university Huangdaian teacher team, 3 national teaching teams, 3 members of the Ministry of Education professional teaching steering committee, the country and Hubei Province New Century 100 million talents 30 people were selected, 16 people in Hubei Province, 16 people in the “Hundred Talents Program”, 181 people in the “Chutian Scholars Program”, 7 teachers in Hubei Province, 4 in Hubei Masters Studio, and 33 in Baosteel Education Fund. 28 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions enjoyed 82 special allowances from the State Council and the People’s Government of Hubei Province. The “Innovation and Introduction Base for Steel for Marine Engineering and Applied Performance” was selected by the Ministry of Education and the State Administration of Foreign Experts for the “Innovation of Institutions of Higher Education”.
