Introduction to Weifang Medical University
Weifang Medical University (潍坊医学院, website) is a full-time general medical college in Shandong Province. It is located in Weifang, a world-famous kite capital in the middle of Shandong Peninsula. The school’s history dates back to the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. In 1951, Changwei Medical School of Shandong Province was established. Reconstructed to Changwei Medical College in 1958. In 1987 it was renamed Weifang Medical College.

Weifang Medical University has two campuses, Fuyan Mountain and Yuhe, covering an area of 1.2 million square meters and a construction area of over 630,000 square meters. There are 30 full-time doctoral students, more than 1,600 postgraduates, more than 13,000 undergraduates, and more than 200 foreign students. There are Lock Road College, Ji Shi College and Confucius Institute. There are 13 provincial graduate training bases, 3 directly affiliated hospitals, and 15 non-affiliated hospitals. The library has more than 3.8 million books, of which 2.398 million are electronic books.
Weifang Medical University currently has more than 1,500 faculty members. Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Xie Lixin and Yu Jinming are honorary presidents. There are 1 national “Thousand Talents Plan” experts, 1 national multi-million talent project winner, 8 “Taishan Scholars” special hired experts, 2 Taishan industry leading talents, 2 new century outstanding talents from the Ministry of Education, the province has outstanding Contributed 4 young and middle-aged experts, and enjoyed 14 special government allowances from the State Council. There are 9 national exemplary and outstanding teachers, 8 provincial-level teaching teachers, 35 top-level professional and technical talents, 22 doctoral supervisors, and 705 master supervisors.
Weifang Medical University currently has 18 colleges (departments) and 27 undergraduate majors, covering 7 university disciplines such as medicine, science, management, and law. 4 majors in preventive medicine, clinical medicine, anesthesiology, and public service management were included in the first batch of undergraduate admissions. There are 4 national specialties, 1 national virtual simulation experimental teaching center, 3 provincial high-level application-oriented key project construction specialties (groups), and 9 provincial specialties and brand specialties. In January 2017, the China University of Science and Technology Evaluation and Research Center jointly released the list of undergraduate majors in China. Our university’s public service management major and anesthesia major respectively ranked among the top three in the country for similar majors. In 2018, the Marxist College was named the Provincial Model Marxist College.
Weifang Medical University is an undergraduate clinical medicine (English-taught) admission school approved by the Ministry of Education for foreign students. It has established friendly inter-school cooperation relationships with universities and research institutions in more than 20 countries including the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and South Korea, and has carried out comprehensive and high-level international cooperation in the fields of medicine and biomedicine. More than 60 well-known experts at home and abroad, including Academician Wang Chen, Academician Dai Kerong, Academician Chen Fen’er, and Academician Zheng Jingchen, are invited as professors by the school. The country of origin of international students has expanded to 25 countries in Asia, Africa and Europe.
