Introduction to Wanjiang University of Technology
Wanjiang University of Technology (皖江工学院, website) is located in Maanshan City, Anhui Province, a civilized city in the country. It is a provincial general undergraduate university with the right to grant bachelor’s degrees approved by the Ministry of Education. The school was formerly an independent college jointly organized by Hohai University, Jiangsu Daye Investment Co., Ltd., and Wuxi Daye Housing Construction and Development Co., Ltd.—Wentian College of Hohai University. It was established on May 7, 2008 with the approval of the Ministry of Education, and went smoothly in 2012. Passed the assessment of bachelor’s degree granting authority and was approved as a bachelor’s degree granting unit. In 2018, the school was approved by the Ministry of Education and successfully converted into an independent private undergraduate school, which was renamed Wanjiang Institute of Technology.
For more than ten years, Wanjiang University of Technology has sent nearly 30,000 talents to the society, making positive contributions to local economic construction and social development. The school covers an area of 1700 acres and is divided into two campuses, Huoshan Mountain and Zhengpu Port. The school building covers an area of 405,700 square meters. The library has a collection of 1.2 million books. The school currently has 60 laboratories of various types, 1 provincial key laboratory, 1 municipal key engineering center, 11 research institutes, and 1 hydraulic research institute. There are 736 full-time teachers, of which 613 are full-time teachers with postgraduate qualifications, accounting for 83.29% of the total number of full-time teachers. There are 84 teachers with senior professional and technical titles, and 208 teachers with deputy senior professional and technical titles. Wanjiang University of Technology adheres to the demand-oriented training of applied talents and constantly optimizes the professional layout. It has 7 secondary colleges, such as the School of Hydraulic Engineering and the School of Civil Engineering, and the Teaching Department of Ideological and Political Theory and the Teaching Department of Basic Teaching. There are 32 undergraduate majors, forming an application-oriented professional structure with engineering, economics, management, art, science, agriculture, and other disciplines as the mainstay of engineering and water conservancy. There are 16 major provincial-level majors, including 1 first-rate major, 4 specialty majors, 2 pilots for comprehensive reform, 5 majors in education programs for outstanding talents, and 4 majors in the “Rejuvenation Plan” of Anhui Province. The school has long-term cooperation with universities such as Hohai University to jointly build and develop specialty programs with special advantages.
Wanjiang University of Technology attaches importance to the combination of production, teaching, and research, attaches importance to the leading role of teaching research in teaching reform and the promoting role of scientific research in teaching, and has achieved a series of results in quality engineering, scientific research, and university student discipline competitions. Teachers and students of the institute hosted a total of 253 vertical scientific research projects, including 47 provincial-level projects and 206 municipal and school-level projects; published 81 books and textbooks; published 736 academic papers, of which 69 were retrieved by SCI, EI, and CSSCI; He obtained 31 patent authorizations, undertook 130 horizontal subjects, and completed more than 400 consulting reports.
Wanjiang University of Technology insists on opening schools and pays attention to international exchanges. It has successively carried out “2 + 2”, “3 + 1”, “4 + 1” and other universities with universities in Japan, South Korea, Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada The number of international students reaches 720, and most of the graduates receive full or half scholarships from foreign universities, of which 50% of the total number of foreign students are graduate students. As a “foreign expert qualification unit” approved by the state, the school employs foreign professors from Britain, Japan, and South Korea. At the same time, expert exchanges in the form of visiting and studying for outstanding young teachers in the school have become normal and standardized.
Wanjiang University of Technology currently has nearly 13,000 undergraduates. The school implements special talent education projects such as the “Outstanding Talent Education Program” and “Wen Tian Class”. The graduates of “Wen Tian Class” have passed the 55% graduate entrance examination and employment rate of 100%. The employment rate of all previous graduates of the school is above 95%, and the admission rate for past years is over 10%. Among them, the admission rate for hydrology and water resources, new energy science and engineering, energy and power engineering, and geological engineering is over 20%. It has built 280 new computer labs for computer innovation, 4 entrepreneurial training rooms and 25 incubator entrepreneurial incubation bases. It is the first university student entrepreneurial supermarket in Anhui Province. It participates in innovation practice competitions every year. More than 500 students have won 36 national invention patents, 17 national Daiso training programs and 213 provincial Daiso training programs.
