Introduction to University of Science and Technology Beijing
The University of Science and Technology Beijing (北京科技大学, USTB) was established in 1952 by the Mining and Metallurgy Departments of 6 well-known domestic universities including Tianjin University (formerly Beiyang University) and Tsinghua University. The Ministry of Education, which has a coordinated multidisciplinary development in France and France, is directly under the national key universities, and is one of the first batch of colleges and universities to formally establish graduate schools. In May 1997, the first batch of schools entered the ranks of national “211 Project” construction colleges. In 2006, the school became one of the first batch of “985 Project” superior subject innovation platform construction universities. In 2014, the “Steel Common Technology Collaborative Innovation Center” with Beijing University of Science and Technology and Northeastern University as the core university led by the school was successfully selected into the national “2011 plan”. In the 67 years since its establishment, the University of Science and Technology Beijing has gradually formed a fine tradition of “rigorous study style and advocating practice”. University of Science and Technology Beijing is located on Xueyuan Road, Haidian District, Beijing. It covers an area of about 803,900 square meters (including the Guanzhuang Campus) and has a total building area of 970,000 square meters (including the Guanzhuang Campus). The school has 1 national science center, 1 “2011 plan” collaborative innovation center, 2 national key laboratories, 2 national engineering (technical) research centers, 2 national science and technology infrastructure platforms, and 2 national international science and technology Cooperation bases, 50 provincial and ministerial key laboratories, engineering research centers, international cooperation bases, innovation and intelligence introduction bases, etc. Especially in 2007, the school, as the first university directly under the Ministry of Education, took the lead in undertaking major national science and technology infrastructure projects—service safety research and evaluation facilities for major engineering materials, and was responsible for the establishment of the National Materials Service Safety Science Center. The physical collection of the library is more than 2.3 million volumes (pieces). Regularly published “Journal of Engineering Science”, “Journal of University of Science and Technology Beijing (Social Science Edition)”, “International Journal of Minerals, Metallurgy and Materials”, “Ideological Education Research”, “Logistics Technology and Application”, “Metal World”, “Powder Metallurgy Technology” and other important Academic publications.
By the end of 2018, there were more than 25,000 full-time students, including 13,683 junior college students, 10,441 postgraduates (including 7,165 graduate students and 3276 doctoral students), 912 international students, and 71,449 continuing education students. There are 283 postdoctoral doctors at the station. A multi-level and complete talent training system has been formed for graduate education, full-time undergraduate, higher vocational education and continuing education.
The university has a rigorous teaching team. The total number of faculty members is 3368, including 504 faculty members with senior professional and technical titles, and 814 faculty members with deputy senior professional and technical titles, including 1836 full-time teachers. The school’s scientific research strength is very strong. From 1978 to the end of December 2018, a total of 7812 patents were applied and 4,630 patents were authorized; more than 2,000 scientific research achievements have been awarded at the national, provincial, and ministerial level, including 176 national awards. In the “List of Major Achievements in Science and Technology Awards of China’s Higher Education Institutions in 50 Years” edited by the Ministry of Education in 1999, 12 major scientific research achievements of the University of Science and Technology of Beijing were included, ranking among the best in the country. According to statistics from the Ministry of Education, from 1978 to 2011, the school won 4 first prizes for national scientific and technological progress, ranking 4th in the country. The scientific research results of the “Study on the Structure and Strengthening and Toughening of Bulk Amorphous Alloys” and “Basic Research on the Interface Control of One-Dimensional Zinc Oxide and Its Application” have clarified natural phenomena, characteristics and laws in the fields of basic research and applied basic research.
