Introduction to Tsinghua University
The predecessor of Tsinghua University (website), Tsinghua Academy, was founded in 1911 and changed its name to Tsinghua School in 1912. In 1928, it was renamed National Tsinghua University. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War in 1937, it moved to Changsha in the south, and established the National Changsha Interim University with Peking University and Nankai University. In 1938, it moved to Kunming and changed its name to National Southwest University. In 1946, it moved back to Tsinghua Park and has five colleges and 26 departments including literature, law, science, engineering and agriculture.
After the adjustment of the faculties of the national colleges and universities in 1952, Tsinghua University became a multi-disciplinary industrial university, focusing on the cultivation of engineering and technical personnel in the country, and was hailed as the “cradle of red engineers.” Since the reform and opening up, Tsinghua University has gradually established its long-term goal of building a world-class university and entered a new era of vigorous development. The school has successively restored or established new disciplines in science, economics, management and liberal arts, and established graduate schools and continuing education colleges. In 1999, he merged with the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts to form the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University. In 2012, the former Graduate School of the People’s Bank of China was merged into the Wudaokou Finance College of Tsinghua University. With the strong support of the state and society, through the implementation of the “211 Project” and the “985 Project”, the “double first-class” construction was carried out. Tsinghua University has achieved in terms of personnel training, scientific research, social services, cultural heritage innovation, and international cooperation and exchanges. Great progress has been made. At present, Tsinghua University has a total of 20 colleges and 59 departments.
