Introduction to Taiyuan University

Taiyuan University (太原学院, website) is located in Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi Province. Taiyuan University was approved by the Ministry of Education in April 2013 and upgraded to a full-time general undergraduate college. In September 2014, the Teachers College of Foreign Languages of Taiyuan University and the College of Education of Taiyuan University revoked and merged the original system. The college is led by the Shanxi Provincial People’s Government and managed by the People’s Government of Taiyuan City. The teaching work is guided by the Shanxi Provincial Department of Education.

Taiyuan University is located in the Tanghuai Industrial Park, which is a hub area for the “same urbanization” of Taiyuan and Jinzhong City. It has prominent geographical advantages and convenient transportation. Taking advantage of the development concept of “first try, first breakthrough” in the comprehensive reform demonstration area, the college continuously innovates and explores the school-running model, and upgrades the traditional in-production teaching and research system and functions of serving the city.

Taiyuan University has excellent infrastructure and excellent school conditions. The planned land of the Fendong Campus of the College is 1,828 acres, and it now covers a total area of 1,308 acres, consisting of the Fendong Campus, the Baling Campus, the Fudong Campus, and the Binhe Campus. The building area of the school building is 344,700 square meters, the total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 69.04 million yuan, the library has more than 1.3 million books, and 4.24 million electronic books.

Taiyuan University currently has 950 teachers, including 3 experts who enjoy special allowances from the State Council, 1 “excellent people artist”, 26 professors, 282 teachers with deputy senior professional and technical titles, and teachers with senior professional and technical titles account for full-time teachers. The proportion is more than 33%, and doctoral and master degrees account for more than 81% of full-time teachers. There are 17 departments, 2 teaching departments (ideological and political theory teaching research department, public physical education teaching department), 2 teaching centers (engineering training center, public experimental center), and 1 continuing education college. The college has 33 undergraduate majors and 26 college admissions majors, covering engineering, science, literature, economics, management, arts, agriculture, education and other disciplines. The college recruits students from more than 20 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions nationwide, with 16,423 students.

Taiyuan University attaches great importance to strengthening foreign exchanges, and cooperation in running schools has become increasingly diverse. Now it has officially signed cooperation agreements with Colorado State University in the United States, Fraser Valley University in Canada, and Yishou University in Taiwan, and has carried out extensive international cooperation in student training, teacher exchange, academic research and other aspects.
