Introduction to Suqian College

Suqian College (website), established in June 2002, with approval from the provincial government of Jiangsu, is a full-time regular institution of higher learning. The college, which is composed of eight schools and one Department of Sports, provides its students with advanced learning and living facilities and offers classes (9 discipline categories) in engineering, literature, science, art, education, management, economics, law, and agriculture.

Under the guiding philosophy of “All for the students, for all the students, and training students with integrity”, Suqian College puts its primary focus on cultivating practice-oriented undergraduates with career-required and all-round capabilities as well as innovative spirits so as to prepare students for the future challenges. So far, more than 30,000 students have graduated from Suqian College. The college covers a campus area of 241.17 acres, with more than 370,000 square meters of the combined floor area of classrooms and dorms. The value of total fixed assets of the college amounts to 1.14 billion Yuan. And the total cost of teaching facilities reaches about 100 million Yuan. The school has 2 provincial experimental teaching centers, 95 labs and 122 off-campus practice bases as well. The library covers an area of 30, 700 square meters, with 2.3 million volumes, including 2,015 kinds of paper periodicals, 210 kinds of newspapers, 1.25 million E-books, 20,000 E-journals, and 21 Chinese and foreign databases.

Suqian College gives top priority to the construction of the faculty team, and a well-qualified, reasonably-structured teaching staff with innovative spirit is emerging to meet the need of teaching and research. Among 694 full-time teachers, 39.6% of them are professors or associate professors, and 76.7% of them are with doctor’s degree or master’s degree. Following the improvement of comprehensive strengths and research policies, many fruitful achievements have been made to meet the increasing innovation and the local service demand. Consequently, the college is obtaining more and more social influence.

Since the Twelfth Five-year Plan, over 270 projects of state, province, or municipality have been conducted, and over 40 scientific research achievements of province or municipality, and 3,000 papers have been published (over 340 of them included by SCI, SSCI, EI, ISTP). In order to actively adapt to the challenge of a more globalized environment, Suqian College establishes important policies of opening, international cooperation during collegiate leaping-over development. The school sponsors some mid-aged teachers to study abroad and to attend international academic exchange activities every year. The school has built a friendly relationship , achieving a fruitful cooperation between student and tutor mutual visit, academic exchange, and collaborative cultivating talents, with more than 10 universities from New Zealand, Korea, and the US etc.
