Introduction to Southwest Guizhou Vocational and Technical College for Nationalities

Southwest Guizhou Vocational and Technical College (黔西南民族职业技术学院, website) for Nationalities was approved by the Guizhou Provincial People’s Government in January 2004. It was formed by the merger of five secondary technical schools in Qianxinan Prefecture Agricultural School, Hydropower School, Agricultural Mechanization School, Finance and Trade School, and Health School. In October 2008, the Guizhou Southwest Guizhou Ethnic Administration School was merged into the college. In June 2011, with the approval of the Provincial People’s Government, the State People’s Government established the Southwest Guizhou Technician College based on the college.

The college is located in Xingyi City, the prefecture of the southwestern Guizhou Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, the prefecture of the three provinces of Yunnan, Guizhou and Guizhou. The college covers an area of 797.32 acres and is now divided into two campuses. It consists of 8 teaching departments including biological engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering, water conservancy and power engineering, business, medicine, nursing, security, mountain tourism, and the Ministry of Continuing Education and Training Southwest Ethnic Vocational School.

Southwest Guizhou Vocational and Technical College for Nationalities now has 23 higher vocational majors including animal husbandry and veterinary medicine, computer network technology, power system automation technology, accounting, pharmacy and nursing. There are 477 in-service workers and 373 full-time teachers, of which 86 are master degree or above. There are 8 senior professional titles and 125 senior vice professional titles. 12,000 full-time high school and secondary vocational students. There are 50 national, provincial, and college-level biotechnology engineering, nursing, pharmacy, midwifery, and power system automation technologies, including 50 on-campus training bases and 67 off-campus training bases. It has established the 107th National Vocational Skills Appraisal, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Spark School of the Ministry of Agriculture, etc., and has the third-level qualification of Guizhou Province safety training and the third-level qualification of Guizhou Province coal mine safety training. Nearly 70,000 person-times were provided for training in industry departments and vocational skills, and more than 4,000 person-times obtained vocational skill appraisal level certificates and qualification certificates.

Southwest Guizhou Vocational and Technical College for Nationalities has highlighted the characteristics of vocational education running in a coordinated development such as high and secondary vocational education, adult education, technician education, skills, industry, and rural labor training. The initial employment rate is stable at more than 93%, which has trained a large number of technical and technical personnel for the economic and social development of Qianxinan Prefecture and surrounding areas.
