About NEUQ

Northeastern University at Qinhuangdao (NEUQ, website https://www.neuq.edu.cn/) is one of the best universities in Hebei Province. NEUQ, whose founding was officially approved by China’s Ministry of Education, is a general institute of higher learning. Under the general program of Northeastern University, it enjoys independence in the management and recruits students nationwide. NEUQ was originally founded in 1987 as an organic component of Northeastern University. In 1996, it entered Project 211, conducting the sub-projects of Northeastern University. In 1998, together with Northeastern University, it became a university directly under the Ministry of Education. In 2001, under the approval of the Ministry of Education, its computerized recruits and graduation of students were put under the unified management of Northeastern University. Meanwhile, it kept enjoying its independence in enrolling students from all over China. In 2006, it started to conduct the sub-projects of Project 985.

The campus is located in Qinhuangdao, a coastal city with Yanshan Mountian in the north and Bohai Sea in the south. Decorated in blooms and blossoms, the campus is lush and green. Standing on the campus are buildings of various styles. NEUQ has emerged as a flourishing modern university with beautiful surroundings, rich culture and good facilities. In August, 2008, NEUQ made great contribution to Beijing Olympic Games by providing independent gyms and stadiums for 9 national Olympic football teams from Brazil, Italy and other countries.

The university values the international cooperative exchanges and friendly communication, so that the long-term friendship and cooperations have been set up with various research institutes and universities from the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom and other countries. Meanwhile, under the principle of “inviting the talented to come from abroad, sending people to go abroad to learn”, NEUQ has regularly sent its faculty to many countries as visiting scholars to do research and study, or deliver lectures. So far, the substantive achievements have been made in education, scientific research and talented personnel’s development.

About the City

Qinhuangdao (City Panorama) is a city in the north of China in Hebei Province. It is about 300 kilometres (190 mi) east of Beijing, on the Bohai Sea. The city had 2,987,605 people as of 2010. Qinhuangdao is one of fourteen coastal open cities, which are important foreign trade ports in north China. It was approved as a national grade tourist city by the State Council. Famous scenic spots include Shanhaiguan and Beidaihe.

Transportation

Qinhuangdao’s train station serves the Beijing-Harbin Railway, Daqin Railway and Tsuyama railway. China’s first express passenger line between Qinhuangdao and Shenyang Passenger starts here. The line became the official carrier on October 12, 2013. It takes 2 hours from Qinhuangdao to Beijing and 1 hour from Qinhuangdao to Tianjing. Qinhuangdao Shanhaiguan Airport has flights from Shijiazhuang, Wuhan and Shanghai.
