Introduction to Northeast Normal University
Northeast Normal University (东北师范大学, website) is a national key university for the “211 Project”. In June 2004, the Graduate School was established with the approval of the Ministry of Education. In 2007, it was selected as a national innovation platform for the “985 Project” of teacher education in colleges and universities. In September 2017, it was selected as a national “double first-class” construction university.
Northeast Normal University has a free campus and a net month campus. 28,024 full-time students. There are 1557 full-time teachers, including 497 professors and 616 associate professors. There are 23 colleges (departments), 78 undergraduate majors, 38 master’s degree authorized first-level disciplines, 17 master’s degree authorized points, 23 doctoral degree authorized first-level disciplines, 2 doctoral degree authorized points, 20 Postdoctoral research station, 5 national key disciplines. The disciplines cover 11 disciplines except military science and medicine.
The university is known as “the cradle of people’s teachers”. In the 1950s, Cheng Fangwu, a well-known educator and principal of China, put forward the idea of running a school to serve primary and secondary education. The school pioneered the first correspondence education in China’s normal colleges; in the 1980s, the school actively served rural basic education and stepped out of a well-known basic education The “Changbai Mountain Road” in the world; in the 1990s, the “Excellent Teacher Project” was implemented to train outstanding teachers for basic education; in the new century, the “educator training project” was launched and the “new model of UGS teacher education” was explored. The “Excellent Teacher Project” and “U-G-S New Model of Teacher Education” successively won the first prize of national teaching achievements in higher education.
Northeast Normal University 6 disciplines in chemistry, materials science, engineering, plant and zoology, mathematics, environmental science and ecology entered the top 1% of ESI global rankings, and the total SCI papers in the past ten years (2008-2017) have been cited Ranked 6th in national universities. Existing drug genes and proteins are screened by one national engineering laboratory and six ministerial key laboratories. The World Civilization History Research Center and the Rural Education Research Institute are two key research bases in the humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education. In 2012, 2014, and 2015, Professor Bai Zhidong, Professor Wang Enbo, and Professor Liu Yichun successively won the second prize of National Natural Science. In 2015, Professor Lin Zhichun and Professor Han Dongyu won the first prize of the 7th Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award. In 2016, the subject’s comprehensive strength ranked among the top 500 in the world. In 2017, six disciplines of Marxist theory, world history, mathematics, chemistry, statistics, materials science and engineering were selected as “double first-class” construction disciplines.
Northeast Normal University has established cooperative relations with 297 universities and research institutions in more than 30 countries and regions, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, South Korea, Japan, and Russia. In 2015, Rutgers Newark College of Northeast Normal University was established in cooperation with Rutgers State University of New Jersey. The school has established Confucius Institutes in South Korea, Spain, the United States, Canada, and Mongolia. The Hanban, the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have established “International Chinese Language Teacher Training Bases”, “Chinese Language Education Bases”, “Education Aid Bases”, and “China-ASEAN Education and Training Centers” in our school. The Chinese Preparatory School for International Students in Japan is located in our school.
Northeast Normal University has a group of well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad. Over the past 70 years, the university has trained and transported more than 300,000 graduates of all types and levels for the country. A large number of outstanding talents have stood out in the field of education. Lu Jiazheng, the Zhibian teacher who moved China, Zhiyuan Feng, the national model teacher Guo Lihua, the national special-grade teacher Dou Guimei, the national top ten teacher Ma Xianhua, etc. At the same time, it also cultivated a variety of talents such as the famous ecologist Zheng Guangmei, the physicist Sun Changsun, the geographer Liu Xingtu, and the famous writer Zhang Xiaotian.
