Introduction to Jinan University

Jinan University (website) is the first overseas Chinese institution founded by the government in China. The university faces the Chinese people from southeast asia and spreads the Chinese culture to the five continents.

Campus

The university has five campuses in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Zhuhai, and the school headquarters is in Shipai, Guangzhou. The campus covers a total area of 2,214,400 square meters, with a school building area of 1.624 million square meters and a student dormitory area of 441,100 square meters. The school library has a collection of 3,589,700 books. The school has 24 affiliated hospitals, including 14 key hospitals.

The predecessor of the university was the Jinan School, founded in Nanjing in 1906 by the Qing government. Later moved to Shanghai, and in 1927 changed its name to National Jinan University. During the Anti-Japanese War, he moved to Jianyang, Fujian. After the founding of New China, Jinan University was rebuilt in Guangzhou in 1958. After the reform and opening up, the school developed rapidly. In June 1996, Jinan University became a national university with a focus on the 21st century. In June 2015, the university was selected as a key university in Guangdong Province. In September 2017, the school was selected as a “double-class” university to build a university.

Known as the “highest university of overseas Chinese”, Jinan University adheres to the motto of “Faithfulness and Respect” and pays attention to the cultivation of talents with the excellent traditional moral culture of the Chinese nation. The school actively implements the policy of “facing overseas, facing Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan”. At present, the university has a complete range of disciplines, including liberal arts, science and technology, with 37 colleges, 64 departments, 19 directly affiliated research institutes, 94 undergraduate majors, and 41 master’s degree programs. There are 23 first-level disciplines, 27 professional degree authorization categories, 16 post-doctoral mobile stations, and 1 post-doctoral research station.

In recent years, with the efforts of teachers and students, the discipline construction and strength of the school have improved significantly. At present, the school has 4 national key disciplines, 8 key disciplines of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, 2 key disciplines of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 21 key disciplines of the first-level disciplines of Guangdong Province, and 4 key disciplines of the second-level disciplines of Guangdong Province. The school’s engineering, chemistry, clinical medicine, pharmacology and toxicology, materials science, biology and biochemistry, agricultural science, environmental / ecological sciences entered the top 1% of ESI world. Jinan University currently has 37,918 full-time students, including 26,837 undergraduates and 11,081 graduate students, with 11,767 overseas students, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and foreign students from 123 different countries and regions.
