Hunan College of Foreign Studies (湖南外国语职业学院) was founded in 1993, formerly known as Liuyang Institute of Foreign Studies; in 2002, it was solely invested by Hunan Liuyanghe Vocational Education Group to complete the Liuyang Campus with complete school running functions; in 2005, the first higher professional program ——Business English; In 2006, with the approval of the Hunan Provincial People’s Government and the filing of the Ministry of Education, it was officially upgraded to an ordinary higher vocational college, and Liuyang and Changsha schools were established.

The Liuyang campus covers an area of 185 acres, with a construction area of nearly 80,000 square meters. It has facilities for teaching, training, living, services, sports and sports, and can accommodate 5000 students. In order to meet the ever-expanding educational needs and comprehensively improve the ability to run schools, the college requisitioned 683 acres of land in Wangcheng District, Changsha, with a total construction area of 510,000 square meters. Hunan College of Foreign Studies is a foreign language major, with the goal of cultivating foreign-related business service talents. Now it has English Department, Western Language Department, Eastern Language Department, Department of Foreign Economic Management, Department of Art and Education, Department of Information Science and Engineering, Department of Nursing, and Ministry of Secondary Vocational Education. It has a total of 27 majors and is open to 18 provinces, cities, The district has enrolled more than 12,000 students.

The college’s professional system is divided into five major sections: applied foreign languages, foreign economics and management, foreign nursing, information technology, and arts and education. Talent training mainly connects the country’s “Belt and Road” and Hunan’s outward-oriented economy. At present, the applied foreign language major has become a “fist product” with strong market appeal and social recognition. The foreign-related nursing profession with Xiangya Hospital’s well-known professors and doctors as its academic and management team has become a popular specialty in the market. In 2018, the college added two new majors of preschool education and midwifery, becoming the only non-teaching college in the province with a preschool education major and the only non-medical college with a midwifery college. The majors in big data technology and application, e-commerce technology, Internet of things application technology, computer network technology, art design, music communication and traditional Chinese medicine rehabilitation technology approved in 2019 will formally recruit students for the first time in the province.

Hunan College of Foreign Studies has a sufficient number of teachers with a reasonable structure and high quality. There are 465 faculty members, including 226 full-time teachers. Among them, 35% have a master’s degree or higher. The percentage of “double-teacher” teachers exceeds 45%. The percentage of teachers with overseas learning and work background exceeds 20% .

Hunan College of Foreign Studies and the Provincial Department of Commerce established the College Overseas Employment Workstation, and successively signed overseas internship cooperation agreements with 17 overseas companies, and established stable student employment channels in cooperation with more than 500 companies. In the past three years, the average final employment rate of graduates was 92.6%, the employment professional counterpart rate was over 61%, and overseas employment was over 10%, and the quality of employment has been improving year by year. The college is the “excellent” university in Hunan Province for the “first-in-class project” evaluation of graduate employment.

Hunan College of Foreign Studies has established inter-school cooperation and exchange relationships with more than 30 foreign universities and educational institutions, and has introduced advanced foreign teaching concepts, high-quality educational resources, shared teachers, and innovative teaching models. Hunan College of Foreign Studies is one of the key universities in the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan for the Development of Education in Changsha”.
