Huaqiao University (华侨大学，website) was founded in 1960 in the famous hometown of overseas Chinese in Quanzhou, Fujian Province. It is the first university in China named after the “Overseas Chinese”. In 1983, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China determined that Huaqiao University was a “nationally-supported university”. In 1997, the original Jimei Overseas Chinese Student Tutoring School, located in Jimei School Village, Xiamen, Fujian Province, was incorporated into Huaqiao University and renamed Huaqiao University Huawen College.
