Heilongjiang University of Science and Technology (黑龙江科技大学, website) is the only university with mining characteristics in Heilongjiang, Jilin and even Inner Mongolia. Heilongjiang University of Science and Technology was formerly the first coal mine worker cadre school in the Northeast established by the Communist Party of China in Jixi in 1947. In 1954, it merged with Hegang Coal Mine School to establish Jixi Coal Mine School. On this basis, Jixi Mining College was founded on this basis. In 1964, it was changed to Jixi Coal Mine School due to the adjustment of colleges. Jixi Mining College was rebuilt in 1978, and it was renamed Heilongjiang Mining College in 1981. It belongs to the former Ministry of Coal Industry. It was placed under the local government in 1998, and a system co-constructed by the central and local governments was put in place, focusing on the management of Heilongjiang Province. In 2000 it was renamed Heilongjiang Institute of Science and Technology. In 2013 it was renamed Heilongjiang University of Science and Technology.
Heilongjiang University of Science and Technology currently has 22,657 full-time students, including 883 graduate and doctoral students. Since the Tenth Five-Year Plan, the employment rate of undergraduates has been above 90%, maintaining the top three universities in the province, and has been awarded by the Ministry of Education as “National Top 50 Graduate Employment Universities” and “National Advanced Group for Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship Education”.
