Introduction to Hebei Medical University

Hebei Medical University (河北医科大学, website) is a key backbone university in Hebei Province. It was first named Beiyang Medical School. It was founded in 1894 by Li Hongzhang, the governor of Beiyang, the governor of Zhili, and it is the first official western hospital in modern China. After the Revolution of 1911, in October 1912, the Ministry of Education issued the 16th Decree. Beiyang Medical School changed its name to Zhili Public Medical College in 1913 and began to recruit undergraduates. The school was relocated to Baoding in 1915. The outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War on July 7, 1937, forced the school to close. Re-enrollment in January 1946. In April 1949, it was renamed Hebei Medical College. In 1958 the school moved from Baoding to Shijiazhuang. In 1995, the former Hebei Medical College, Hebei College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Shijiazhuang Medical College merged and renamed Hebei Medical University. In 2013, Hebei College of Traditional Chinese Medicine resumed its independent establishment. In 2016, the Ministry of Education, the National Health and Family Planning Commission, and the People’s Government of Hebei Province formally signed an agreement to jointly build Hebei Medical University. During the “Thirteenth Five-Year Plan” period, the school formulated the development goal of “building a high-level medical university with distinctive characteristics”.

Hebei Medical University has gone through 125 years, especially in the 40 years of reform and opening up, and has become a comprehensive medical university integrating teaching, scientific research, and medical treatment. In 2005, the school put forward the school motto of “Mingde Bo Xing Fang Zhiyuan”. In 2015, the school established the “student-oriented and teacher-first” philosophy. At present, the school has two campuses, five directly affiliated hospitals, under which there are 18 secondary colleges and 25 undergraduate majors, including 4 national specialty specialty and 4 provincial specialty specialty. Five majors were selected as the first batch of first-class undergraduate professional construction sites in the country, and five majors were selected as the first batch of first-class undergraduate professional construction sites at the provincial level. There are 15,790 full-time students, including 3,709 doctoral and master students, and 427 international students.

According to the requirements of the training objectives of each major of the school, the school has a total of 46 off-campus internships and training bases to undertake the teaching tasks of the undergraduate professional internships and training.
