Introduction to Guangzhou College
The guidelines of Guangzhou College of SCUT (website: https://www.gcu.edu.cn/) are comprehensive development with its own characteristics, high academic quality and brand building with the backing of South China University of Technology. Drawing on industrial strength, regional strength, key-university strength, cooperation strength and institutional strength, the university sets application-oriented, comprehensiveness, innovation and entrepreneurship as key words in cultivating talents, and aims to cultivate graduates with good personalities, solid academic foundation, strong capability and practical skills. The university puts efforts in building students’ hands-on experience and their abilities; maintains high-standard management in campus environment, teaching facilities, faculty and regulatory framework; uphold constant improvement on academic quality by establishing a long-term academic quality control mechanism so as to form characteristics on program, faculty, talent-cultivation and campus culture.
Approved by Ministry of Education, Guangzhou College of SCUT (hereafter as “the university”) is a higher education institution focusing on full-time undergraduate education, co-founded by South China University of Technology and Guangzhou Zhujiang Yunfeng Investment Holding CO., LTD. In April, 2005, the campus started setting up, covering an area of 283 acres. On April 12th, 2006, Ministry of Education replied Department of Education of Guangdong Province that the establishment of Guangzhou Automobile College of SCUT (GCU’s former name)was officially approved (Ministry of Education Official Notice NO. 85 (2006)), and the enrollment started in September, 2006. On April 25th, 2011, Ministry of Education replied Department of Education of Guangdong Province that Guangzhou Automobile College of SCUT was officially renamed as Guangzhou College of South China University of Technology (in Ministry of Education Official Notice NO. 104 (2011)). On January 5th, 2012, Guangdong Province Degree Granting Department approved the university the authority of granting bachelor degrees, 17 undergraduate programs included (Guangdong Province Degree Granting Department Notice NO. 5 (2012)).
Since its founding, Guangzhou College of SCUT won titles of “China’s Most Competitive Institution in Job Market”, “Top Ten Independent Colleges that Students Trust” and “Best Brand Influence Independent College in China”, etc. In the China University Evaluation Report from CUAA.net, the university has ranked among the top 20 for 7 consecutive years. In 2017, the university ranks the 7th among Top 300 Independent Colleges in China while in Science and Engineering, it ranks the 3rd.

About the City
Guangzhou, also known as Canton, is the capital and most populous city of the province of Guangdong in southern China. On the Pearl River about 120 km north-northwest of Hong Kong and 145 km north of Macau, Guangzhou has a history of over 2,200 years and was a major terminus of the maritime Silk Road, and continues to serve as a major port and transportation hub, as well as one of China’s three largest cities.

Guangzhou weather is generally warm and humid all year round without a clear division of seasons. With a humid subtropical monsoon climate, Guangzhou is characterized by warm winters, hot summers, little frost and snow, as well as sufficient rain and sunshine. The yearly average temperature in Guangzhou is 22 °C (72 °F). The lowest temperatures are in January when the average low temperature is 10 °C (54 °F), and the record highest temperature was 39 °C (102 °F) in July.
