Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts (广州美术学院), formerly known as the Central South Academy of Fine Arts, was established in 1953 in Wuhan, Hubei Province in accordance with the national construction layout. The school relations department and staff are merged. The first principal was Hu Yichuan, a famous revolutionary artist who had participated in the Yan’an Forum on Literature and Art. The first vice president was the famous oil painter Yang Qiuren, the famous national painter Guan Shanyue and Yang Taiyang.

In 1958, the Central South Academy of Fine Arts moved from Wuhan to Guangzhou to the south and changed its name to Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. In 1981, he was awarded the first batch of national master’s degree granting authority. In 1987, he began to recruit students from foreign countries, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. In 2005, he was approved as the first batch of national masters of arts (MFA) training pilot units. unit.

Entering the new era, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts relies on Guangdong’s advantages as a vanguard, pioneer and experimental area for reform and opening up, and is based in the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau Greater Bay Area. With the advantages of history, location, economic development, cultural resources, and talent pooling, The starting point and the new strategy are to promote talent training, scientific research and creation, better serve the social development of the new era, and actively integrate into national strategies such as the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and accelerate the development of the “Belt and Road” initiative.

In 2004, the school completed a new campus in Guangzhou University City. There are two campuses, Changgang and University City, with a total area of 564 mu and a total construction area of 411884 square meters. The school currently has 12 colleges, undergraduate education has 31 majors and 55 majors, and has recruited 21 majors. At present, the school has 5,351 undergraduates, 802 graduate students, and 23 international students.

Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts currently has 3 provincial key disciplines, including 2 first-level disciplines such as “Fine Art”, “Design” and 1 second-level discipline “Arts and Crafts”. There are 3 provincial key disciplines, including 1 first-level discipline “Art Theory” and 2 second-level disciplines “Art Theory and Criticism” and “Film and Television and Digital Media”. In the fourth round of national subject evaluation organized by the Ministry of Education in 2017, the school’s two first-level disciplines “Arts” and “Design” were rated B +, and “Art Theory” was rated B. At present, the school has 1 national-level comprehensive reform pilot project major, 3 national-level specialty majors; 10 provincial-level specialty majors, 1 provincial-level key specialty, 6 provincial-level comprehensive reform pilot projects, and provincial-level application-type 2 talent training demonstration majors. There are 13 national and provincial high-quality majors, accounting for 61.9% of the total enrollment majors.

Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts has strong faculty. The school currently has 883 faculty members, including 530 full-time teachers, 76 senior titles, and 166 deputy senior titles. Horizontal art design exhibitions, holding high-level international academic seminars, and hiring well-known overseas experts and scholars to hold lectures and academic lectures. The school vigorously develops education for foreign students in China, promotes the cooperation in running schools with high-level foreign universities in an orderly manner, actively expands the opening up of higher education, and strives to increase the degree of internationalization of school running.
