Guangxi University




Guangxi University (website: was founded in 1928. It is the best university in Guangxi Province. The first president was Dr. Ma Junwu, a celebrated educator, scientist and democratic revolutionist in China. In 1997, Guangxi University and Guangxi Agricultural College consolidated into one. The new Guangxi University was designated as “211 Project” university in 1999 and approved to be a cosponsored university by Ministry of Education and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Government in 2004.

Today, Guangxi University has developed into a region-featuring research university with 30 colleges. It boasts 97 undergraduate majors, master degree station of 36 primary disciplines and 171 sub-disciplines, doctoral degree stations of 8 primary disciplines and 45 sub-disciplines as well as 7 postdoctoral research centers. The university has 2,006 full-time teachers, including over 400 professors, more than 700 associate professors, 125 Ph.D supervisors and 1,328 master supervisors. The number of the full-time undergraduate students amounts to 23,649, whereas the full-time postgraduate students reach 6,669. In addition, the number of international students from over 30 nations and vocational education students totals 800 and 20,000, respectively.

The green tree shade, scented blossoms, fragrant grasses and rippling lakes bring a beautiful and quiet environment to the campus. The university is located in 307 hectare with building space of 1.3309 million m2, Guangxi University boasts the facilities for teaching and research valued at 529 million Yuan and a 5.29 million books that consist of 3.234 million printed books and 2.058 million electronic books. The library also housed over 4000 paper periodicals in Chinese and foreign language and 17,000 full-text electronic periodicals.

Adhering to the core of discipline construction and the platform of “211 Project”, the University strengthens its discipline construction with continued efforts. Through years of hard work, the equipment conditions are greatly improved; the research fields are more specific and the features of the discipline are more distinctive. This strengthening in core facilities and disciplines have brought some disciplines to the advanced level within China and some even to international advanced standards. Currently, the University has three national key subjects and key cultivation subjects, 6 national key developing subjects for “211 Project”, 21 provincial key subjects. It also boasts one state key laboratory, one state key laboratory cultivation base, 15 provincial-level key laboratories, engineering research centers and research bases, 19 Guangxi key laboratories and research bases.

With talent cultivation as the fundamental task, Guangxi University has implemented the “Quality Project”. It further deepens education and teaching reform, strives to build a postgraduate education system that emphasizes both scale and quality. As a result, the talent quality has improved steadily and remarkable achievements are seen on teaching development and reform. Over the past eight decades, Guangxi University has educated over 200 thousand professional talents. Among them, there are government officials, top scientists, experts and entrepreneurs who contribute greatly to the development of China and human civilization.

Guangxi University promotes culture inheritance and innovation and actively carries out international culture communication and exchanges. Since 1960, it has cultivated a large number of graduates from nearly 40 countries. The University has already established friendly ties with 165 universities or research institutes from 34 countries and regions such as United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Canada and Japan. In addition, the University promotes the teaching of Chinese language as foreign language to international students. In recent years, it has built two Confucius Institutes in Suan Dusit Rajabhat University, in Thailand and Tallinn University in Estonia.

Through the developments spanning over 80 years, with the goal of building a high level research university with regional characteristics and upholding the motto of “Diligence, Prudence, Inclusiveness and Innovation”, Guangxi University has unswervingly implemented development strategies for focusing on quality, science and technology and talent. About Nanning

Nanning (City Panorama) is the capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in south-west China. It is a large, modern city and a transport gateway for travellers to and from Vietnam. Nanning is also the political, economic and cultural center of the region. It has the most prosperous economy in Southwest China, supplying an abundance of agricultural products to the whole Guangxi. Bordering Vietnam, this city is neighbor to Guangzhou, close to Hong Kong and Macau, and faces Southeast Asia. This advantageous location makes the city a commercial and communication center, opening China to Southeast Asia.

As the linking point of the tour route from Guilin to Beihai, Nanning has a lot of attractions to offer: grand Detian Waterfall, beautiful Mt. Qingxiu and Mt. Daming, quiet Yangmei Ancient Town, mysterious Huashan Mural as well as scattered parks and gardens. Visitors will be enchanted and may want to spend more time in the city. Delicious local foods such as various porridges and rice noodles as well as Suanye (fermented fruits and vegetables) cannot be enjoyed anywhere else in China.


Pleasant climate endows Nanning with evergreen trees and fragrant flowers all year round, hence the name ‘Green City.’ In such a beautiful land, more than 30 ethnic minority groups have been living harmoniously for 1,680 years. Zhuang is the largest minority group of China. Over 90% of them live in Guangxi. Their history and ethnic culture add charm to the city.

Winters are cool and the average temperature in January being 12.9°C (55.2°F). Cold weather rarely occurs in Nanning, but sometimes temperatures can fall to 5°C (41°F) during nighttime.
