Introduction to Guangxi Normal University

Guangxi Normal University (广西师范大学, GXNU) is located in Guilin, an international tourist attraction and a national historical and cultural city. It is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and the “Central and Western University Basic Capacity Building Project”. There are 3 campuses including Wangcheng, Yucai and Yanshan. The campus covers an area of 4,100 mu. There are more than 2,400 in-service faculty members, nearly 27,000 full-time undergraduates, nearly 6,000 master students, more than 200 doctoral students, and nearly 1,600 international students. More than 20,000 adult education students. The university has developed into a “leader” for teacher education in Guangxi.

The history and culture of the university is rich. The predecessor of the school—Guangxi Provincial Teachers College was founded in 1932. It was the beginning of Guangxi higher teacher education and one of the earliest higher normal universities in China.

Guangxi Normal University has 21 colleges, 79 undergraduate programs, and 6 doctoral degree programs. The school has a collection of 3,418,261 paper books, 596,832 Chinese and foreign periodicals, and 2,226,566 electronic books. The university has 1822 full-time teachers, with 1,561 graduates with a master’s degree or above, accounting for 85.67%. The university has about 120 senior-level talents at the national and provincial levels.

Guangxi Normal University has achieved fruitful results. In the past five years, the university has obtained 1912 scientific research projects at various levels, including 378 national-level projects such as the National Spark Program, the National Natural Science Foundation, and the National Social Science Fund. The research funding (R&D expenditure) totaled approximately 478 million yuan. More than 1096 academic papers were indexed by three major indexes such as SCI, and 1,785 Chinese core journal papers were published, and 168 scientific research awards were obtained at the provincial level.

Guangxi Normal University’s culture industry is booming. Guangxi Normal University Press was established in November 1986. As the first batch of university publishing houses in China, it was officially established on June 28, 2009. It is the first local university publishing house group in China and The first publishing group in Guangxi. In recent years, it has acquired the Australian Visual Publishing Group and the British ACC Publishing Group, leading the establishment of a multinational publishing group with a mature and complete industrial chain. Now it has more than 30 companies in Guilin, Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and other countries in the United States, Britain, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Croatia and other countries. In the comprehensive evaluation of industry organizations in recent years, the comprehensive strength has ranked among the top ten of China University Press.

Guangxi Normal University has extensive international exchanges. Now it has established cooperation and exchanges with more than 200 universities and institutions in more than 40 countries and regions. There are 3 Confucius Institutes and 1 Confucius Classroom overseas. The university is the demonstration base for studying in China by the Ministry of Education, and the Huawen Education Base of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Bureau of the United Front Work Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. It is the “Chinese Government Scholarship” of the Ministry of Education, the “Confucius Institute Scholarship” of the Hanban, and the “ASEAN Scholarship” International Student Receiving Unit of the Guangxi Government. From 2008 to 2018, more than 16,000 long-term and short-term international students from more than 60 countries were accepted. In 2018, the Ministry of Education came to China to study quality certification. The Wangcheng and Yucai Campus used to be the school of Vietnamese schools. From here, more than 10 Vietnamese national leaders and more than 40 Vietnamese provincial and ministerial leaders are the only universities in China that accept and cultivate the largest number of Vietnamese students. Established a college in Confucius Institute in Vietnam. In 2018, the university established the Vietnam Research Institute to focus on building a platform for Vietnamese research think tanks.
