Introduction to Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University

Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University (website) is a provincial-level institution of higher learning with a master’s degree granting power, a professional vocational and technical college set up independently in the country, the first batch of ordinary undergraduate transformation pilot universities in Guangdong Province, and a plan-building school for characteristic universities in Guangdong Province.

The university has a long history of development. Founded in 1957, the predecessor was the Guangdong Nationalities College. The first principal was Comrade Luo Ming, a revolutionary of the older generation. In 2002, it was renamed Guangdong Technical Teachers College. In 2002 and 2005, the former Guangdong Mechanical School, the former Guangdong Provincial Economic Management Cadre College and the Guangdong Finance and Trade Management Cadre College were merged. On November 30, 2018, the school officially changed its name to Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University. The school is located in the first batch of historical and cultural cities in China, the birthplace of the Maritime Silk Road and Guangzhou, the frontier of reform and opening up. At present, there are 5 campuses, and there are 4 campuses, including the school headquarters, the west campus, the north campus, and the Baiyun campus. The Heyuan campus is under construction and is scheduled to be enrolled in 2020.


The university has a profound tradition and is re-educated. The three major disciplines of engineering, humanities and management include five major disciplines in Guangdong Province, including science and engineering, vocational and technical education, modern and contemporary Chinese literature, ethnology and mechanical engineering. There are 4 first-level master’s degree programs in education, control science and engineering, ethnology, journalism and communication, covering 22 secondary disciplines, master’s degree in education, master’s degree in engineering (master’s degree in electronics and communication engineering), master’s degree in accounting, etc. 3 master’s degree programs. The school is a postgraduate enrollment and training unit for “professional school teachers working for master’s degree” and “national high-level key talent plan”, and there are 13 joint research institutes in Guangdong Province. There are 20 secondary colleges and 66 undergraduate majors, among which 30 are science and engineering majors, 36 are liberal arts, 30 are teachers’ classes, and there are more than 20,000 full-time students. There are 2 national and 8 provincial professional construction points, 1 national level and 11 provincial professional comprehensive reform pilot projects, 1 national level and 4 provincial excellent teacher training program projects, 2 national level, 30 provincial-level boutique resource sharing courses, 1 national-level, 2 provincial-level boutique video open class, and 4 other provincial-level quality courses. In the past five years, the school teachers have participated in the second prize of the national teaching achievement, and won the first prize and four second prizes of Guangdong higher education teaching achievements.

Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University adheres to the Lide Shuren and has a faculty with a high academic level, dedication and professional structure. There are 1404 faculty members, including 996 full-time teachers, 140 high-ranking titles, 332 deputy high-ranking titles, 47.4% of full-time teachers, and 320 doctors, accounting for 32.1% of full-time teachers. Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University adheres to the combination of production and education, the integration of science and education, and the research level and service society. The school has one Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory (Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Intellectual Property Big Data), two Guangdong Provincial Think Tanks (Vocational Education Development Research Center, National Development Research Center), and one Guangdong Provincial University Humanities and Social Sciences. Key research base (National Institute of Guangdong Normal University of Technology), 3 key laboratories of Guangzhou City, 1 international cooperation base of Guangdong Science and Technology Department, 1 Guangdong Provincial Economic and Information Committee, small and medium-sized enterprises public technology service platform, 13 Guangdong Province More than 20 provincial and provincial research platforms such as Engineering Technology Research Center. In the past five years, the school teachers have received 30 awards for scientific research achievements at or above the provincial and ministerial level, including 2 at the national level. Cooperated with the Shunde District People’s Government to establish the “Guangdong Shunde Modern Vocational Education Research Institute” and the Guangdong Intellectual Property Office to jointly establish the “Guangdong Skilled Personnel Intellectual Property Training Base” and jointly established the “Yangjiang City Local Legislation” with the Yangjiang Municipal People’s Congress. Research and evaluation and consulting service base, and 223 school-enterprise cooperation personnel cultivation practice bases with Guangwu Automobile Trade Co., Ltd. and Guangdong Radio and Television Station, and a joint laboratory of the National Development and Reform Commission Engineering Laboratory with Guangdong University of Technology. The school has a Guangdong Industrial Training Center with a total value of teaching and research equipment of about 240 million yuan. The library has about 2.24 million books.

The university’s talent training has achieved fruitful results. Adhere to the collaborative education and support students’ innovative practice. Students have won numerous awards in the “Challenge Cup” series competition, mathematical modeling competition, electronic design competition, Freescale Cup smart car competition and other high-level discipline competitions at home and abroad. There were 617 awards and 1,182 provincial awards. The employment rate has remained above 95% for several years. It has been awarded the “2015 National Graduate Employment Experience Experience University” by the Ministry of Education. It was awarded “Guangdong Province Employment Advanced Work Unit” and “Guangdong Province Innovation and Entrepreneurship Model School” by the Guangdong Provincial People’s Government. “National National Unity and Progress Model Collective”, “National Third Huang Yanpei Outstanding School Award”, “Guangdong Province School of Law School Model” and other titles.
