Introduction to Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University

Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University (FAFU) is located in Fuzhou, the gateway of the Maritime Silk Road, a coastal port city in Fujian province. FAFU is a provincial key university with a strong emphasis on the advantages and characteristics of agriculture and forestry, and a multi-disciplinary development of science, engineering, economics, management, literature, law, and art, and a first-class university in Fujian Province.

The predecessor of Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University was established in 1936 by the Agricultural College of Fujian Concord University and the Fujian Provincial Agricultural College established in 1940. In 1952, two major cultures were established to form the Fujian Agricultural College. In the autumn of 1958, the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government established the Fujian Forestry College on the basis of the Forest Department of the Fujian Agricultural College. In October 2000, the former Fujian Agricultural University and the former Fujian Forestry College merged to form the new Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University.

Campus

The campus of Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University is surrounded by three forests, with beautiful scenery and birds and flowers. The school has been awarded a national civilized unit for three consecutive years. The campus covers an area of ??more than 4,800 acres, with another 1,178 acres of science and education bases, 45,900 acres of teaching forests, and a total asset value of 3.5 billion yuan. There are 2,935,200 volumes of paper books (including journal bound editions) in the library collection. It has 4.42 million e-books (including electronic journals).

Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University has 23 colleges with full-time undergraduate and postgraduate training and 2 independent colleges. There are 22,000 full-time undergraduates and more than 6,000 graduate students. There are 79 undergraduate majors, 8 pilot projects for excellence in agricultural and forestry talents, 2 national-level comprehensive reform pilot projects, 9 national-level specialty programs, 2 national-level experimental teaching demonstration centers, and 2 national-level undergraduate practice education bases. There are 14 national-level online open courses and 4 national virtual simulation experimental teaching projects. The school was selected by the Ministry of Education as one of the top 50 universities for innovation and entrepreneurship, and the national colleges and universities practiced innovation and entrepreneurship bases. In the “Challenge Cup” national college students’ extracurricular academic and scientific works competition and the “Creating Youth” National College Student Entrepreneurship Competition, they won the “Winning Cup” seven times.

Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University has 3,108 faculty members and staff, 1,762 full-time teachers, 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 2 outstanding national professional and technical personnel, 14 national special experts, and 7 national scientific and technological innovation leaders of the “Millions of Plan”. There are 5 members in the group, 8 “Changjiang Scholars” from the Ministry of Education, 4 National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 7 National Excellent Young Scientists, and 13 National Talents Projects. There are 8 experts, 7 people in the Ministry of Science and Technology’s innovative talent promotion plan, 5 people in the New Century Excellent Talents Support Program of the Ministry of Education, and 41 special allowances from the State Council. It has 2 national teaching teams, 1 innovation team of the Ministry of Education, 2 innovation teams of the “Innovative Talent Promotion Plan” of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and 2 innovation teams of the Ministry of Agriculture. One base was selected into the “High School Discipline Innovation and Enlightenment Program” ( “111” plan).

Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University currently has 12 doctoral degree-granting first-level disciplines, 27 master’s degrees authorizing first-level disciplines, and 11 post-doctoral research mobile stations. There are 1 national key discipline, 1 national key cultivation discipline, 2 key agricultural and rural disciplines, and 7 key disciplines of the National Forest and Grass Bureau. In the fourth round of national assessments, 17 disciplines entered the list, with the four disciplines of plant protection, forestry, ecology and landscape architecture entering the top 10%-20%. Six disciplines were selected for the peak discipline of Fujian Province, and 12 disciplines were selected for the plateau discipline of Fujian Province. The two disciplines of botany and zoology and agricultural science rank among the top 1% of the world.

The university has one state key laboratory jointly built by the province, one provincial and one 2011 collaborative innovation center, two national engineering technology research centers, two national and local joint engineering laboratories (research centers), and the international cooperation of the Ministry of Education. There are 1 joint laboratory, 2 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, 1 engineering research center of the Ministry of Education, 2 key laboratories of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and 3 key laboratories of the State Forestry and Grassland Bureau. Since the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan”, the school has hosted more than 5,000 scientific research projects, with research funding exceeding 1.5 billion yuan, and more than 100 national and provincial scientific and technological achievements awards, including 4 national scientific and technological progress awards. The molecular mechanism of the original photoreaction of the plant blue light receptor was firstly deciphered globally, and the related results were published in the top international academic journals such as Nature, Science and Cell.

The university is an inventing unit of fungus and grass technology. The new varieties of sugar cane, jute, Chinese fir, sweet potato, peanut, tea, and vegetables are selected and the practical technical achievements are promoted to cover the main producing areas of the country. Relying on the New Rural Development Research Institute approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education to build a rural science and technology extension service model that is closely integrated with industry, academia and research. At the “China Straits Project Achievements Fair”, the school’s scientific and technological achievements docking project has been in full participation for 16 consecutive years. Universities and research institutes are the first.

The university is the Ministry of Education “receiving Chinese government scholarships to study abroad in China” and has more than 200 international students. The school took the lead in launching a separate enrollment for Taiwan, and organized six joint training programs with Taiwan’s Chung Hsing University and Taiwan Ocean University, and jointly organized four undergraduate education programs with universities such as Dalhousie University and British Columbia University in Canada. Concurrently established with the University of Illinois, the University of Texas A&M University and other universities to carry out joint training programs for students such as the National Scholarship Program and the Confucius Institute at Durban University of Technology.
