Introduction to Chongqing Vocational and Technical University of Mechatronics
Chongqing Vocational and Technical University of Mechatronics (重庆机电职业技术大学, website) was founded in 1971. It was formerly known as Chongqing Weapon Industry Workers College and consists of eight vocational colleges, including Changan, Jiangling, Jialing, Jianshe, Yangtze River, Wangjiang, West Car, and Huahua. In 2003, a full-time general college was established on the basis of Chongqing Military Engineering University. On October 12, 2018, the Ministry of Education identified our school as the country’s first batch of pilot units for vocational school reform at the undergraduate level. On December 19, 2018, the Ministry of Education sent a letter to the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government on “Approval of Chongqing Mechanical and Electrical Vocational and Technical College to be upgraded to undergraduate Letter from Vocational Schools at Different Levels (Teaching Letters No. 2018 ﹞ 166), formally agreeing that our school be upgraded to a vocational school at the undergraduate level, and the school development is moving towards a higher platform. On May 27, 2019, the Ministry of Education officially announced the following (Teaching Letter [2019] No. 36) and approved the change of name to Chongqing Mechanical and Electrical Vocational and Technical University. From 2019, it can recruit undergraduate students nationwide. The first batch of undergraduate majors are: mechanical design and manufacturing and automation, material molding and control engineering, vehicle engineering, electrical engineering and automation, IoT engineering, intelligent manufacturing engineering, big data technology and application, automotive service engineering, engineering cost, logistics 10 vocational undergraduate majors including management.
The university is the backbone of higher vocational colleges in Chongqing. It has been awarded the title of “Top Ten Characteristic Schools in China”, “Top 100 National Vocational College Employment”, “National Pioneering Demonstration Unit” and “National Advanced Unit for School-Enterprise Cooperation”, and was awarded ” “National Defense Education Advanced Unit” is the first non-government college in Chongqing targeted by the People’s Liberation Army.
The university covers an area of 904 acres with a building area of 260,000 square meters. Chongqing Vocational and Technical University of Mechatronics has a mechanical engineering center, a Sino-German automotive engineering center, an intelligent manufacturing engineering center, a production-education integration collaborative innovation center, and a virtual simulation teaching and training center. There are three central financial support training bases in the school. There are 125 foreign internship and training bases, of which 66 are off-campus top-post internship bases, and the library has nearly 696,000 books.
Chongqing Vocational and Technical University of Mechatronics currently has 477 full-time teachers with a student-teacher ratio of 17.36: 1. Among the full-time teachers, there are 186 teachers with professional titles of associate senior level and above, accounting for 38.9% of full-time teachers; 178 full-time teachers with postgraduate degrees, accounting for 37.3% of full-time teachers; and 253 “double-training” teachers, accounting for full-time teachers 53%.
