Introduction to China University of Labor Relations

China University of Labor Relations (中国劳动关系学院, website) is the only general undergraduate college directly under the All-China Federation of Trade Unions. It was jointly established by the All-China Federation of Trade Unions and the Ministry of Education.

The predecessor of China Institute of Labor Relations was the Jinchaji Border District Administrative Cadre School, which was separated from the North China United University in April 1946. In early 1949, the school was relocated to Tianjin and renamed the North China Staff Cadre School. In September 1949, in accordance with Comrade Liu Shaoqi’s instructions, the North China Workers’ Cadres School was renamed the All-China Federation of Trade Unions Cadres School. Comrade Li Lisan, Vice Chairman of the National Federation of Trade Unions, also served as the first principal. Approved by the Party Central Committee and Comrade Liu Shaoqi personally approved the school site, in August 1954, the school was relocated from Tianjin to Beijing. In September 1984, the All-China Federation of Trade Unions Cadres School was formally restructured into the China Academy of Labor Movement, and adult academic education was launched for the national trade union system and society. In May 2003, the China Institute of Labour Movement was restructured and upgraded to a regular undergraduate college, and was renamed the China Institute of Labor Relations. In July 2017, the All-China Federation of Trade Unions and the Ministry of Education jointly issued the “Opinions of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions on the Co-construction of the China Institute of Labor Relations”, and the school development has entered a new historical stage.

According to the guidance and requirements of the National Federation of Trade Unions and the Ministry of Education, China University of Labor Relations has for many years adhered to the promotion of labor characteristics, union characteristics, and labor movement characteristics. Undergraduate education is the focus, union cadre training is the mission, the steady development of postgraduate education, and the strengthening of higher vocational education. The school structure has become a relatively complete and complete university in the field of unions and labor relations.

China University of Labor Relations has Marxism College, Trade Union College, School of Labor Relations and Human Resources, Law School, School of Economics and Management, School of Public Administration, School of Security Engineering, School of Social Work, School of Cultural Communication, School of Hotel Management, Applied Technology 15 colleges (departments and departments) including colleges (artisan colleges), physical education teaching department, foreign language teaching department, trade union cadre training college, continuing education college (labor college, training center); setting up social work, labor relations, human resource management, Business Administration, Economics, Labor Economics, Financial Management, Law, Labor and Social Security, Administration, Political Science and Administration, Safety Engineering, Occupational Health Engineering, Chinese Language and Literature, Journalism, Drama, Film and Television Literature, Hotel Management, etc. 17 general undergraduate majors covering 6 disciplines including law, management, economics, engineering, literature, and art. In 2013, the school began to recruit postgraduates with a master’s degree in public management. Currently, it has four professional directions: labor relations, union work, labor and social security, and public safety management.

China University of Labor Relations has actively recruited outstanding talents at home and abroad, and has strengthened the training of young and middle-aged teachers. As of November 2019, the school has 365 full-time teachers, of whom approximately 43.01% are senior technical professionals, aged 45 The proportion of young and middle-aged teachers below is about 76.16%, the proportion of full-time teachers with postgraduate qualifications is about 94.79%, the proportion of teachers with PhDs is about 53.42%, and 14 people enjoy special government allowances from the State Council. There are 3 members, 6 teaching teachers in Beijing, 5 outstanding teachers in Beijing, and 18 candidates for the Beijing Youth Talent Program. As of November 2019, the university has a total of 6093 full-time students, including 183 graduate students, 4785 undergraduates, and 1125 college students.

China University of Labor Relations has two specialties of the Ministry of Education, including law and labor relations, a comprehensive experimental teaching center for the coordination and development of labor relations, a national experimental teaching demonstration center, an ideological and political theory teaching team, and cultural innovation. Talent Training Education Team “2 Beijing outstanding teaching teams,” Labor Relations Coordination and Development Experimental Teaching Center “and” Cultural Communication Experimental Teaching Center “2 Beijing Higher Education Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centers, and” North Lingyun Industry Group Co., Ltd. “And” Beijing Zhongrui Huantai Technology Co., Ltd. “are two Beijing-level colleges and universities’ off-campus talent training bases.

China University of Labor Relations currently has two campuses in Beijing Haidian District and Hebei Yinzhou, covering an area of 630 acres. The school has 3 libraries with a total area of 13,800 square meters, more than 900,000 printed books, 1.5 million electronic books, 956 paper periodicals, and 216 databases. It is linked to the National Library, Shanghai Library, Beijing University, Nearly 80 libraries in Beijing, including Tsinghua University, People’s Congress, and Beijing Normal University, as well as many college libraries across the country, have realized interlibrary loan and original text transfer. In addition, the library actively promotes the construction of characteristic collections, and has the largest and most comprehensive resource library in the labor relations and labor unions in China-the China Labour Movement Library.

China University of Labor Relations is the highest institution for national union cadre training. It adheres to the mission status of trade union cadre training in the overall operation of the school, strengthens the construction of the teaching staff, and has formed a full-scale and stable union cadre training full-time teacher team. The compilation and revision of general training materials, the introduction of high-quality education and training resources with the concept of innovation and openness, and the promotion of open sharing of school education and training resources. The school annually trains more than 6000 union cadres.

China University of Labor Relations has 18 research institutions including the National Trade Union Research Association, the Chinese Workers History and Current Situation Research Association, the China Trade Union Labor Relations Forum, and the Great Country Craftsmen and Labor Model Research Institute , Labor relations, labor law, labor economy, occupational safety and health and other academic research in the domestic leading level. “Journal of China Institute of Labor Relations” is dedicated to the in-depth research of trade union theory and labor relationship theory, and strives to reflect the latest research results of practical innovation and theoretical innovation in this field. It has formed distinctive journal characteristics and high-quality academic quality.

The University actively promotes the construction of a new type of think tank, and has established the Institute of Labor Relations and Trade Unions to focus on major issues and serve the national strategy. Decision-making provides intellectual services.

China University of Labor Relations attaches great importance to strengthening academic exchanges and ties with teaching and research institutions at home and abroad. Institutions of higher learning, research institutions, and the International Labour Organization in 16 countries and regions such as Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao have carried out cooperation and academic exchange activities, and regularly conducted teacher and student communication with more than 10 universities outside the country (overseas).
