China Foreign Affairs University (外交学院, website) is the only university directly affiliated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is a small-scale, high-level, and distinctively cultivating first-class diplomatic and foreign affairs talent with the purpose of serving China’s diplomacy. At the initiative of Premier Zhou Enlai, it was established in 1955 with the approval of the Party Central Committee and Chairman Mao. Premier Zhou wrote the school name for the college. Marshal Chen Yi, then Vice Premier of the State Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs, served as the first dean of the College.

Since its establishment, our academy has been cordially cared by national leaders. Premier Zhou Enlai, Deputy Prime Minister Chen Yi, Vice Premier Qian Qichen, State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan, State Councilor Dai Bingguo, State Councilor Yang Jiechi, and successive Foreign Ministers have visited the college for inspection and guidance. On the fortieth and fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of the college, party and national leaders such as President Jiang Zemin, Premier Li Peng, Vice Premier Li Lanqing, and Vice Premier Qian Qichen had written inscriptions and sent congratulatory letters to the college, and had high expectations for the college. In September 2012, Comrade Wen Jiabao, then Prime Minister of the State Council, wrote the “cradle of Chinese diplomats” for the college.

Our school has established 9 major teaching units, including the Department of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Affairs Management, the Department of English, the Department of Foreign Languages, the Department of International Law, the School of International Economics, the Department of Basic Education, the Graduate School, the Institute of International Relations, the Institute of International Education, and the Asian Institute, Zhou Enlai has more than 30 research centers, including the Diplomatic Research Center and the International Law Institute.

China Foreign Affairs University is the first university in the country to establish a diploma major in undergraduate studies, and it is also the first batch of national masters and doctoral degree awarding units in international relations and diplomacy. Now it has two national-level key disciplines in international relations and diplomacy. Currently, it has established friendly relations with 102 universities or institutions in the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Japan, etc., and sends some outstanding undergraduates and graduate students to the United States and Russia every year. , Japan, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, the Netherlands, Switzerland and other countries. With the continuous enhancement of China’s overall national strength, the country’s need for outstanding diplomatic talents is increasing day by day. The campus scale and teaching conditions on Exhibition Road, Xicheng District, Beijing, are far from meeting the needs. With the care of the Party Central Committee, the State Council, and the Party Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the construction of the Shahe Campus of the Foreign Affairs College was completed and put into use in September 2012. The new campus classrooms are spacious and bright, complete with modern facilities, and the campus environment is pleasing to the eye, which reflects the characteristics of the School of Foreign Affairs’ opening, tolerance, rationality, and humanistic care.

On September 10, 2012, Comrade Wen Jiabao, then Prime Minister of the State Council, came to the new campus, attended the unveiling ceremony of the bronze statues of Premier Zhou Enlai and Marshal Chen Yi, and made an important speech, putting forward expectations to the college: “The Foreign Affairs College must have first-class teachers, first-class disciplines, The first-class concept will send first-class talents to the motherland’s diplomacy. ”

On January 3, 2014, the signing ceremony of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education for the establishment of the Diplomatic Academy was held at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. According to the “Agreement on the Joint Establishment of the Diplomatic Academy by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education”, the two ministries established a coordination mechanism to increase support for the college in terms of policy support, funding guarantee, discipline construction, scientific research, talent training, cadre training, and teacher building.
