Beijing Language and Culture University (北京语言大学, website) is a university directly under the Ministry of Education of China. It was established under the personal care of Premier Zhou Enlai. It was founded in 1962. In June 1964, it was named Beijing Language Institute. In 1974, Chairman Mao Zedong wrote the school name for the school. In June 1996, it was renamed Beijing Language and Culture University. In 2002, the school name was simplified to Beijing Language and Culture University.
Beijing Language and Culture University is the only international university in China that focuses on the education of Chinese and Chinese culture for foreign students in China. Since the 1990s, Beijing Language and Culture University has maintained its characteristics and advantages in the field of Chinese international education. The school cooperates with Harvard University to establish Harvard Beijing Academy, Bangkok College in Thailand, and Tokyo Branch in Japan.
