Introduction to Changsha WES Academy
Changsha WES Academy (CWA 长沙玮希国际学校, website) is the first and only international school in Hunan Province that uses English as the primary language of instruction. Currently, we offer an international curriculum for children from ages 3 to 19. We have been approved as an International School by the PRC Ministry of Education and we are an accredited member of the Council of International Schools(CIS). In May 2014, the International Baccalaureate Organization authorized us as a Primary Years Programme, International Baccalaureate(IB) World School. All IB World Schools share a common philosophy of a commitment to high quality, challenging, and international education which we believe is important for our students.
The total land area of the school is 23,788 square meters, and the actual land area is 20,427 square meters. The school plans to construct teaching buildings, laboratory buildings, student apartments, canteens and other necessary teaching and living facilities according to the two major functional areas of teaching area and living area. The new construction area of the school is 22,000 square meters and can accommodate 500 students.
The school is jointly constructed and operated by China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park International Education Service Co., Ltd. and Changsha Economic and Technological Development Co., Ltd. Changsha Economic and Technological Development Co., Ltd. invests 70 million yuan to be responsible for the construction, including the school’s civil construction and the provision of all the school’s basic equipment and facilities. After completion, it will be handed over to the foreign party for operation, and the foreign party is responsible for the daily operation and management of the international school.
Since the school officially opened in September 2010, the school has grown from 4 foreign students at the beginning of school to 15 foreign teachers, 6 classes, and more than 50 foreign students from 16 countries and regions.
In May 2014, the PYP program of Changsha WES Academy was officially certified and authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization. The member schools of the International Baccalaureate Organization share a philosophy, and it is a point that we believe is essential to students-a commitment to high-quality and competitive international education. The school provides full-time education from kindergarten to G8 grade. As more and more international families settle in Changsha, the school will gradually grow and provide a comprehensive curriculum system from kindergarten (3 years old) to high school (G12 grade).
