#CampusLife On January 20, the International Faculty New Year Symposium organized by the International Department of Shanghai University was held in Conference Room 203, Administration Building, Baoshan Campus. Vice President Gong Siyi, more than 20 foreign experts, Cui Wei, Director of the International Cooperation Division, and related personnel attended the meeting. The symposium was hosted by Lai Huijie, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Office.
On behalf of the school, Gong Siyi thanked the foreign experts of the school for their hard work and dedication in this extraordinary year of 2020. Under the influence of the global epidemic, foreign experts all over the world insist on being on the front line of teaching and scientific research, overcoming difficulties, and their professionalism is praiseworthy. Shanghai University is about to usher in its centennial anniversary. Looking back at history, the school has always adhered to the philosophy of openness and cooperation, and supported the construction of first-class universities and first-class disciplines with an international strategy. With the efforts of all teachers and students including foreign experts, the school has international influence constantly improving. Foreign experts are an important part of the school’s talent team and an important driving force for the internationalization strategy. The school will provide support for foreign experts to come to Shanghai University to develop their careers and chase their dreams, and jointly build a more international high-level university.
Professor Zhang Jiujun, dean of the Faculty of Science and academician of the Royal Canadian Academy of Sciences, highly affirmed China’s achievements in epidemic prevention and control. Marc Bondiou, Dean of the China-Europe Institute of Engineering and Technology, introduced the development history of the college, using Sino-French engineer education cooperation as the main mode to promote international talent training and international scientific research cooperation. Malgorzata Biczysko, a researcher at the Faculty of Science, shared his unforgettable moments in his work at Shanghai University in the past five years. During the process of cultivating students, he experienced the achievements brought by teaching and learning, and held precious memories of scientific research cooperation such as international seminars. Kaoru Kakinuma, associate professor of the School of Sociology, pointed out that a free scientific research atmosphere, an excellent research team, and sufficient scientific research funding support are the main reasons why Japanese experts come to work in China. The on-site foreign specialists also had a lively exchange on work contracts, performance evaluation and scientific research funding applications.
The day of the event coincided with the traditional Chinese festival Laba Festival. After the symposium, the International Department invited foreign experts to taste Laba porridge, glutinous rice balls, and spring rolls, and invited them to experience the making of glutinous rice balls.
