To demonstrate the profound Chinese culture and enhance foreign teachers’ interest and sense of identity of Chinese culture, CIPTC organizes a variety of cultural activities during the winter holiday every year. Cultural Visits for CIPTC Foreign Teachers of 2018 have drawn to a successful end recently. In this activity, CIPTC foreign teachers visit Sujiawei Hakka Village, Fujian Tulou Hakka Folk Culture Village, the Site of the Gutian Congress and Peitian ancient village, etc.

Sujiawei Hakka Village, located in Heyuan City, Guangdong Province, is the first stop of this activity to explore Hakka culture. Sujiawei is also the settlement of descendants of Su Dongpo, a literary giant of the Song Dynasty. Here in Sujiawei, foreign teachers can not only enjoy the idyllic pastoral scene, but also experience the culture of the Su family and Hakka people with a history over 700 years.

Fujian Tulou Hakka Folk Culture Village, a well-known world cultural heritage, is located in Longyan City, Fujian Province. There are over 40 distinctive Tulou structures, including Kuiju Tulou, Fuyu Tulou and Zhencheng Tulou, which are listed as national key cultural relics protection units. CIPTC foreign teachers here can enjoy the view of the world’s unique residential buildings in mountain villages—Hakka Tulou, and learn about the epic sagas of Hakka ancestors’ migration.

After visiting the Yongding Tulou, CIPTC foreign teachers go to the site of the Gutian Congress. This was the place where the ninth congress of the fourth army of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army was held in December, 1929. The congress adopted The Resolution of the Gutian Congress drafted by Mao Zedong, which was an important milestone in the history of the founding of Chinese Communist Party and the army, and it laid a solid foundation for the success of the Chinese revolution. CIPTC foreign teachers wear the red army uniform to renew the important revolutionary history and learn the spirit of the Gutian Congress.

Peitian ancient village is one of the best preserved ancient residential community in southern China by far. It is another well-preserved Hakka architectural treasure (the other two are Yongding Tulou and Weilongwu of Meizhou ) and it also has the laudatory title of “the Hakka Manor” and “the Folk Forbidden City” . CIPTC foreign teachers here can enjoy the sight of the exquisite ancient residence architectural complex in the style of the Ming and Qing dynasties, and feel the charm and humanism of Hakka culture at the same time.

CIPTC cultural visits of 2018 are full of laughter and joy. Our foreign teachers not only have the chance to experience the unique Chinese culture, but also have the chance to bond with each other and feel the warmth and joy of the CIPTC family. CIPTC will inherit and carry forward the spirit of the Gutian Congress to lead the process of internationalization of education and make greater contribution to Shenzhen’s education.
